improvements going on everywhere -- Mrs. Westcott was
sister in law to Mrs. Sibley -- Dr. Keyes boarded with
her, with his family at this time, and for sometime after-
wards-; and afterwards lived in a rented house, near the
public square-; one afterwards owned by Dr. Jno. Gee --
and kept house there for two years -- I made many a visit
there in those years -- Mother & father boarded with them
during this period --

I spent a week with them now very pleasantly; during which
time I made a visit to Bainbridge, to see if I would like it as
a location for the practice of medicine -- Old Jacob Shotwell
of Columbus owned some town lots there, and offered to give
me one, if I would settle there -- But I could not bear the
place -- I got there late in the evening -; everything had
a tumble down, neglected, sleepy look -- the court yard fence
was broken down-; the court yard filled with weeds-; lots of
goats were about-; a number of them were sitting in the windows
of the court house, chewing their cud-; I was put in a hot,
uncomfortable room in the hotel, & kept awake by mosquitoes,
during most of the night,- together with the villainous
scraping of a fiddle somewhere in the night-; these were all
such unprepossessing features of Bainbridge, that I was
satisfied it would not suit me; and I left as soon as I could
get off in the morning --

Whilst I was in Columbus, I thought that I would settle
at Major Coe's Mill, situated about 3 miles back from Aspalaga;
it was recommended to me as a good stand; and, I had been
