Big head in horses of the Festale, polecal &c. Cure for either of these. 1 Quart of Tirpentine 1 Quart of Alchahal 2 ox of Camphor 2 Cakes of Shaven Soap Mix all well together rub the parts well will a brush or rag with ^{the mixture} lay a Woollen Cloth over it and hold a hot Iron to it, do this for several days, every day.

Win Galls & puffs Oil of Spike rubed on the affected part frequently will cure.

I have been particular careful to make my fence betwen Myself & William Jaggey leaving 9 feet from the line My part of the lane It has been very troublesome to fix the fence at the right place owing to the way the rode has been worked on the ground having been dug from under my fence I have placed it exactly right and it must for the future be let alone 30th March 1857 Nimrod Porter

Red Ants, Flour of Sulpher tied up in a rag & put where they frequent will drive them off

Horse low in order. 1 oz of Salt Peter 1 oz of Copress 1 oz of Rosen 1 oz of Gum Marr 1 oz of Anthony, pulverized and and mixed well dose 1 Tea Spoon full every 3 days

Cough & Cold remedy (Martha Jane) 5 cents worth of Gum Arabic 5 cents worth of Liquorish 3 Table Spoonfulls of honey disolve in a pint of warm watter then 3 Tea Spoon fulls of parigoric put in it, Take a table spoonfull once

[hand pointing] Botts (See Wilkss Spirit) Botts in Horses 1 Table Spoon full of Alum 1 Table Spoon full of Copras dissolved in three half pints of Strong Vinegar, is said a certain & sure cure for Botts reliable Certificates given to that effect June 20th 1861

Blind Staggers. Give about 1 Jill of Camphor ever 2 hours until you give 3 doses if the hors does not git better sooner, rub the forehead with some hard substance until the skin is made sore. [S?ok] the nostril with Tar, feathers, horn &c until a discharge is produced in Considerable quantity

Cure for Staggers put Turpentine in the ears of the horse it will cure Staggers about one table spoonful in each

July 15, 1861 Made a new box To put Wheat in & put it together in the potato house

10 feet long 4" wide 40 4 high 160 sq feet 8 1280 5/8 bushels

I have calculated this both ways & it brings it out nearly the same

Multiply the lenth by the breadth & multiply that by the depth then multiply that by 8 and cut off one figure on the right all on the right left side will be bushels add on 1/2 bushel for every 100 to make it right

1861 Augt 7th & 8 I sewed a beautiful Turnip patch East of the house, had a good season.

1861 March 25 Planted the field about 30 acres North of the garden in the white Northern Corn

Apl 1 Week 2nd Week 3d Week 4 & 1st May planted the field next Jaggers in our Ala pale yellow Corn planted the long field & field next it on the North, pale yellow Corn planted the North West field yellow planted the Clover field both sides of the branch in the Northern White Corn.

1861 12 May Rained 18 May Rained 8 June Rained [hand pointing] long dry spell crops suffering much Not until 1st July Rained a welcome shower 4 July Rained a little all day 5 July Verry little 16 July Rained a good Season 18 July Verry light 21 July - at night 21 July -----------29 July little 7 Augt Rained ) Sewed turnips 8 Augt Rained ) 9 Augt Rained 10 Augt Rained 11 Augt Rained No rain from 8th June to 1st July The Crops are made & I quit keeping time of Rains

To Dress Sheep Skins While green and fresh take off all the flesh and pelt then
