Superior White Wash

Take a clean Watter tight barrel or other suitable cask and put into it one half bushel of lime Slacken it by pouring over it boiling hot and in sufficient quantities to cover it about 5 inches deep & stir it briskly until the lime is thoroughly slacked When the slackening has been effected disolve in Watter and add, two pounds of Sulphate of Zinc and one pound of Common Salt. These will cause the Wash to harden and prevent its cracking which gives it an unseemly appearance to Work. This leaves the Wash verry white and Beautiful

If desirable a beautiful Cream Colour may be Communicated to the above by Wash by adding three pounds of yellow ochre (or a good pearl Colour or lead Cholour, lamb black) for Fawn colour add 4 pounds of umber, Turkish or American one pound of Indian Red and one pound of lamb black.
