1870 January Th 6 / Wm & Hamon Morrow ) The morning is dark cloudy & raining S. W. William went after Morrow Witness, into the edge of Giles County, took Ham in with him The trial (Tom Harris) is to come off tomorrow (Circuit Cort) It has been raining quite all day started a little about 4 in the evening but has been a constant day's rain William and Hamon will have a wet time after Morrow to get him to Town tomorrow. William & Hamon come about 9 oclock at night with Morrow (the Witness) They were verry wet cold & they having been in the rain nearly all day and was verry cold. Wind blowing from North & ground freesing They were all verry bad off with cold

Fr 7 / Cort / Green / Rich'd $8.00 5.00 ) The morning is quite cold Ground is froze Wind N. & cold Circuit Cort in session. Old Cash was shut up in the potatoe house in Lawson's cotton seed & perished there before he was found out and died there. I paid Green for Richard Trotter for the Mare Green sold to Richard. Now the Mare is mine Green's debt was $8.00 I give him $5.00 for the debt. Richard says he will pay it out of sale of his Cotton

Sat 8 ) The morning clear verry cold Wind N. We were trying to git wood turning cold hard work to keep fires feed &c The Stock looks bad No care has been taken of the out horses & I have been too unwell to do anything.

1870 January Sun 9 / Cold Wind N. / Wind 12 oclock N. E. / 5 oclock S. E. / 9 oclock S. ) The morning is clear calm Wind N. This is one of the verry coldest days that has been this year everything is frose up My General health has been verry feeble and weakly Not been able to leave the house & yard My bowels has been locked up for nearly a week About 12 oclock The Wind has changed to the N. East, but cold. About sun down the Wind has changed to the E. & S. E. and at 9 oclock P. W. the Wind has still changed nearly S. and is blowing tollerably high. The Wind is a going round & changing faster than usual

Mon 10 / Court / Aleck ) The morning is clear Wind high W. Circuit Cort still in session I made a contract with Aleck Young & his wife he finds one horse I another, I furnish feed for them both, during the crop season, he pays me back the feed in the fall says 6 bbs for each mule. I control the amount of Cotton & Corn ground how much of each, & to keep ossession of the Cotton until it is sent to the Gin. Sally is to milk the cows Gratus

D. M. Porter ) This is her birthday, born 11 Jany 1801, died 1836 Maried July 1817 We lived together 19 years with all the hapiness that ever two lived together in this world. O that we could call back those golden days never to be forgotten by me. She has been dead thirty four years.

N. P. 78 This is my birthday 78 years old today & verry weak & feeble don't get about but verry little, health at this time is not good

George P. Jo & me made a Bench to fix a surrenge in does verry well indeed fastened it on a no botton chare to set on

Fri Jany 14 / Rain / P. Pillow's Wife &c ) The morning is dark cloudy Wind E. & N. and raining Set in like it was going to rain all day. Preston is mooving two wagons in his yard Pone Pillow's wife & daughter has been here all day and eat there dinners It cleared of about 12 & colouded up at 1 oclock. Commenced Rain in the evening and rained on until 9 at night & still rained hard

It has rained verry hard nearly all night, abt one oclock there was some heavy thunder, look like more rain William left this morning about sun rise for Mt. Pleasant William J. cam about midnight had like to have been severely dealth with before all was over I was much disturbed about it all night did not slee after he come home the ballence of the night. Mrs. Pone Pillow & her little girl stayed last night, & Pone stayed at George P. last night Jo went to Town Give Puss Sugar $1.00 Felix breeches $1.00 and Jo $.50 all $3.10

Pleasant yesterday I think he has gone from there another cours, & likely will not be back before tomorrow. William came home at 1 1/2 oclock today I was Just sitting down to dinner - Jack Patton took the wagon & went to moove H. Mon 17 / Court Circuit Cort is still sitting / Wind / Rain / Thunder / lightening / Pittion / Convention / N. S. Brown / V. Thompson / Meal / Wheat / See 27.20 ) The morning is cloudy Wind changed N. W. last night was accompanyed from early in the night all night with heavy Wind Rain thunder & lightening it was a desperate night all night until morning much thunder and lightening Wind blow almost a gale all night The Pittion with over 100 signers to change the constitution giving the people the vote to Elect Cleark & Master was this morning mailled to Vance Thompson & N. S. Brown at Nashville Jo went to Mill took Corn & 1 bushel of wheat then when ground we could not eat it

1870 Jany Tu 18 / Flour ) The morning is clear, calm, & cold Wind, N. I rested badly, the horses in the yard & the puppies taken & kept in the kitchen anoyd me & kept me from sleeping all night I feel bad off this morning William got 50 lbs. flower $
