I sent Puss to Town got a gallon of linsed oil for George to paint Smoke house I paid Jo Thomas for making fires & feeding this week $.50 & I owed him $.25 I let Puss have one dollar to spend I got a letter from Walker & Walker at Nashville enquiring the whereabouts of J. D. McBain asking if he was the partner of J. M. Moore I answered by saying he did not pass himself as a partner but an agt & that I learned from Ament that he was dead & that I did not know his last place of residence George P. painted at the Smoke house today It Rained at 11 oclock at night

Rain / Rain at 9 A. M. / Snow at 10 P. M. large drops / Snow at 3 P. M. / Snow 12 ) It commenced raining with the New Year about mdinight last night and it still raining this morning slowly Wind N. W. but mostly calm. The weather some moderated Verry large flakes of Snow heavy Snow fall commenced about Ten oclock A. M. Verry large drops the ground (at 3 P. M.) is covered 2 1/2 or 3 Inches deep and still snowing coming from the W. & N. West & quite cold bad on man & best. It snowed until midnight

Sun 2 / Chickens / Snow ) the morning is cloudy Wind N. W. & cold the chickens are freesing in the Snow, terable time on the Stock. Our wood is out, bad chance. it cleared off about 12 oclock & the sun shown out but cold wind from the N. W. My General health is about like it has been I can't rest any night until the turn of the night & after the turn of the night I have to get up mostly every 15 or 20 minnits Diabetes until near day Some times I am better & other times worse today I used the Surrenge and a pill at night (I got releaf)

W. & snowing fine Snow & verry cold This is the first week of the Circuit Cort Hugh J. Farris shot Jordan the other day art Hampshire he died Friday last Jordan was a desperate man had threatened Farris who took advantage & shot him with a gun in the back of the head. The County Cort also sits this morning there will be many people in Town today I would like to be in Town but my health won't admit it I sent by William $115.00 to pay my last year's taxes paid $145.40 cts. recpt given by James Wilkins T. Collector It has all the forepart of the day been snowing fine snow. It is snowing at 4.35 the Snow is falling coming from the N. W. looks like a heavy snow a coming tolerable fast I have made agreement with Jo thomas for the year to work at anything I may direct him at Ten dollars .50 cents per month to let him have money along as he may need it & at the end of the year to settle all up with him I am to board him during the time of hire

Wed 5 / Jo sick lost money found ) The morning is clear calm & cold Wind N. W. I missed out of my pocket book this morning a 5 & a 2 dollar bills About 2 week ago the same thing. found the $5 & 2 today

1870 January Th 6 / Wm & Hamon Morrow ) The morning is dark cloudy & raining S. W. William went after Morrow Witness, into the edge of Giles County, took Ham in with him The trial (Tom Harris) is to come off tomorrow (Circuit Cort) It has been raining quite all day started a little about 4 in the evening but has been a constant day's rain William and Hamon will have a wet time after Morrow to get him to Town tomorrow. William & Hamon come about 9 oclock at night with Morrow (the Witness) They were verry wet cold & they having been in the rain nearly all day and was verry cold. Wind blowing from North & ground freesing They were all verry bad off with cold

Fr 7 / Cort / Green / Rich'd $8.00 5.00 ) The morning is quite cold Ground is froze Wind N. & cold Circuit Cort in session. Old Cash was shut up in the potatoe house in Lawson's cotton seed & perished there before he was found out and died there. I paid Green for Richard Trotter for the Mare Green sold to Richard. Now the Mare is mine Green's debt was $8.00 I give him $5.00 for the debt. Richard says he will pay it out of sale of his Cotton

Sat 8 ) The morning clear verry cold Wind N. We were trying to git wood turning cold hard work to keep fires feed &c The Stock looks bad No care has been taken of the out horses & I have been too unwell to do anything.

This is one of the verry coldest days that has been this year everything is frose up My General health has been verry feeble and weakly Not been able to leave the house & yard My bowels has been locked up for nearly a week About 12 oclock The Wind has changed to the N. East, but cold. About sun down the Wind has changed to the E. & S. E. and at 9 oclock P. W. the Wind has still changed nearly S. and is blowing tollerably high. The Wind is a going round & changing faster than usual

Mon 10 / Court / Aleck ) The morning is clear Wind high W. Circuit Cort still in session I made a contract with Aleck Young & his wife he finds one horse I another, I furnish feed for them both, during the crop season, he pays me back the feed in the fall says 6 bbs for each mule. I control the amount of Cotton & Corn ground how much of each, & to keep ossession of the Cotton until it is sent to the Gin. Sally is to milk the cows Gratus

Fri 21 / Alfred Montgumery / Corn ground ) The weather is moderated Clear some frost Wind N. W. A man about 22 years old form appearance, blue eyes, slim built Weight about 125 or 130 cam last night at dusk We took him in said he had no money eat his breakfast said his name was Alfred Montgumery We discovered this morning that he was partially deranged. William got up some close for him & he put them on and left. Said he was traveling to the east. Jo & me worked at the Corn house doors &c.
