Rec’d a letter from Henry T. Thomas, Caledonia, Tennessee, saying that he had a thought of sending down an account of his father's against Dr. Thomas’ estate for probate. I replied to him that it was unnecessary to send it down, as it was too old for me to allow it, - but promised him to send him the note the Doctor held upon him, if I could find it. Rec’d 27th. "S. Press" of the 19 June June 28th. 1852. Went down to Holly Springs to day to administer on James W. Crawford's estate, & returned home at night. Light rain in the afternoon The crops on the road generally grassy. The Corn is promising but the Cotton is late & small. No blooms to be seen & but little Cotton, if any, knee high [Here appears some scribbling] Pickett's scribbling for which I whipped him 24 June 1852. Jobs to be attended to this Summer & Fall Make Brick & Build Kitchens Build Crib at home Wagon shelter Turn under some oats & sow Peas Try an experiment on Corn & Cotton with late manuring Repair Gin gear & Gins. Repair Smoke House by raising it, putting it on a brick wall, & weather boarding it Cover back Portico. Build Piaza

Tighten wires of Garden fence Paint Houses & fence - Repair floor on top of House Dig Cistern on Plantation, with House over it Clear up Ponds, Drain them & dig pits in them Ditch the Flats in Plantation - Clear some land Prepare Turnip patch Make Cutting Knife, like Wilcox’ Grade stubble land - Turn under stubble. Gather manure Turn under grass & Peas in N. Gin field Have Blinds made. Also book Shelves Build or repair Potato House, or Put Potatoes in hills in Pens Grub the lot in front of the House & prepare a place for a vineyard Alter the Lot (perhaps) between the House & plantation Repair the Fence of the lot in front of the house, & fix it so that it will not wash down in the hollow Set out Peach Trees Repair the roof of the shed of the old Gin, & the Cotton Seed room shed also. Calaboose - Rails - Plank for Cotton scaffold Make Baskets The Cotton plows (18) passed over the Arnold field, the S. Gum field, & 28 acres of the N. Gum field, in all about 72 acres
