21, [209] DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR, 1792, 1792, September, 21, (Continued) Bryant Slone, of Kentucky, came to my father's in the evening- He brought a letter from William Taylor with an order from Wm Taylor to pay said Slon £4.2.7 1/2- Also a letter to Reuben Taylor with an order to pay said Slon £20.17.4 1/2. W.Taylor inclosed a plat from [Gen.Clough?-PFT] Anderson's office for me of 1,000 acres of land lately surveyed on N.W.side of Ohio- also 4 plats- w'ch I formerly had. Also two plats lately surveyed for R.Taylor was inclosed him & 2 he formerly had. J.Taylor jr came here in evening. 22, Last night was clear & cool, but saw no frost to day. J.Taylor, Maj'r Lee & Maj'r Madison came here to Breakfast, the two latter went away after breakfast. Reuben Taylor came here after breakfast and paid Bryant Slon for the order from W.Taylor, £20.17.4 1/2, having borrowed £5.0.4 1/2 of me to make out the sum. I paid said Slon £4.2.7 1/2 for Wm Taylor's order on me. My father let me have, last night, a Doubloon w'ch weighed £4.12.8- Mr Slon went away after breakfast Killed a Shoat- J.Taylor killed a small Beef & sent my father a hind Quarter weighing 54 lb to have returned when my father kills one. C.Taylor, Mr C.Pitt Howard, James Bell, Reu Taylor, J.Taylor & J.Taylor jun'r dined here. 23, [SUNDAY] G.C.Taylor went to the Court house & to Mr.T.Bell's- My father & I staid at home, we explected Maj'r Lee but he did not come. 24, Went with my father to Court- Gave J.Shifflet his Deed from ColJas.Taylor w'ch was proved by one witness. Spoke to Uncle Taylor & others about giving E[lizabeth] Chew some assistance, but none subscribed. 25, Weather warm & a little cloudy but no rain- My father sent George to Mill with near 3 Bus' Wheat- the flour weighed only 78 lbs. 26, Continues warm. I walked in evening to C.Taylor's-T.Barbour's wife was there. When I returned, J.Taylor jr was here and on his request I let him have the Calf-skin, which I bought at Aug't Court for 10/- which he says his father will pay for. 27, I had last night a cold fit which lasted two hours and was succeeded by a high fever & headache which continued to day- G.C.Taylor dined at Maj'r Moore After dinner- Jas Taylor & John Taylor (E.T's) walked over from J.Taylor's, did not stay long- John Taylor (Zachary's son) came here at night, says Jas.Taylor jr, of Caroline [of Newport, Ky- PFT], has returned from Kentucky. 28, Smart frost, killed things more than that on the 21st. John & William Moore & J.Taylor jr, Orange, dined here- J.Taylor (Z.T's) went away after breakfast. 29, Had some Corn gathered yesterday but fear it is not dry enough to grind- The Frost this morning, clear moderate day- 30, [SUNDAY] Warm and clear- We went to Church, Mr Balmain preached a Sermon. G.C.Taylor went to Rob't Taylor's- Jas Taylor (of Caroline) came home with him at night- J.Taylor jr also came over- October, 1, Sent a bag of new Corn to Mill being the first. Jas Taylor jr went home early- after Breakfast James Taylor jr, of Caroline & G.C.Taylor went away. I believe they dined at J.Taylor's & did not return- Warm morning & smoky- In the evening Thunder & rain, a good deal of rain in night. 2, Cool and clear. G.C.Taylor came home after breakfast from Mr.T.Bell's, where he staid last night- some time afterwards Jas Bell came here and dined- John Leathers came to enquire what dealings Negro Jim had had with Mrs James's Randal &c- 3. Clear and great White Frost. I rode with my father to Nooe's, this is the third day of the Dancing School by Mr.Vaughan- A good deal of Company was there in the evening- When we came home my father was taken very ill, his complaint a suppression of urine, which caused excessive pain. Sent for C.Taylor, who directed Clysters, w'ch never operated to effect till towards morning, when my father got some relief. C.Taylor sat up most of the night, as I did, tho' very unwell, till past midnight.
