27 [215] DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR, 1792, 1792, November, 22, Cloudy morning, began to snow, rain & hail in morning, in the evening rained a good deal, the snow melted. About 10 o'clock I went to Banks' store at Adams' Mill bought 1 pair yarn hose & 1/2 doz spoons for myself and 4 pair Yarn hose for the negroes 2/- I saw Mr. Dade, his wife, T.Dade's wife & Jenny Taylor going to P[rince]. William. I returned to dinner. 23, Dark, cloudy, close weather all day, very little rain. C.Taylor's family sent 1/2 Bus' Oysters, w'ch expect he bought for me, Also had bro't from C.Taylor's 1 Sack Salt, 1 Iron pot & 1 Jug- J.Clark's waggon brought up. I expect from Blair's, 1lb Salt petre. 24, Fine morning after a great fall of rain for two days. The Earth very wet here, Great Mountains white w'th Snow. B.Taylor & I walked to J.Taylor's & dined there. . Brother James walked in the evening with us by to C.Taylor, who got home to day from Fredericksburg, said he had got me sundry articles, which he expected home this evening. 25, [SUNDAY] Clear and smart frost this morning- G.C.Taylor got home from Doct'r Walker's. We dined at home- Ben Taylor & G.C.Taylor walked in evening to C.Taylors; and returned at night. 26, We went to Court- Myself & Banj'a Taylor presented the Will of G Taylor dec'd into Court- which not being attested by witnesses, but written entirely by the deceased, was shown to Col James Madison, Maj'r Wm Moore, Mr.Tho's Bell & Col.Tho's Barbour, the sitting members, they were satisfied that it was the writing & will of the said G.Taylor & ordered the same to be Recorded- F.Taylor & Benja Taylor Ex'ors to the Will, with James Taylor & Charles Taylor, their securities gave bond for their executorship in the sum of £5,000. Wm Moore, Benj'a Porter; Geo Proctor, Joseph Clark & Pearce Sandford were appointed to Inventory & appraise the Estate. Saw Mr.James Blair, who told me he was not impatient or uneasy about the Debt due from my father to the Co. Spoke to Maj'r Madison who promised to Survey the Land the 5th of next month. 27, G.C.Taylor went to Court. I went after dinner. Bought for E.Chew yesterday, 1 yd Lining for Gown 2/- & to day 6 1/2 yards Calico 3/- is 19/6, 1 pr Worsted hose 5/- and sent them to her by Jas' Taylor- B.Taylor staid at home. had Shoat kille ag't the appraisement. 28, Cloudy day but no rain till night when there fell a smart shower and cleared off cool. 29, George Proctor, Benjamin Porter & Joseph Clark (being sworn by Wm Moore, Gent. ) made an Inventory of and appraised the Personal Estate of G.Taylor deceased. The Tobacco, Grain & Fodder not being included, amounting to £1,004.15.11 Pearce Sandford & Maj'r Moore were present but did not act- Besides the above mentioned- J.Taylor, Reu Taylor, Ben Taylor, G.C.Taylor & Jno. Pendleton, were here The day was fine and clear tho' somewhat cool. 30, Sharp frost after a windy night, Ben Taylor, G.C.Taylor & I went by the Store at Court house & bought some things, then went to Rob't Taylor's and dined- returned home in evening- T.Mallory sent by his little son 43 yds woolen Cloth wove there, weighing 26 lb. Mrs Mallory went a pair yarn hose she had knit for me. December, 1, Saturday, Sharp frost, Cloudy with some few spits of snow. C.Taylor came here and dined- Capt Burnley was here late in the evening- Said Pearce Sandford surveyed the Land Cawthon sold to Maj'r Moore &c to day. 2, Cleared last night, some Snow on Great Mountains. G.C.Taylor went by C.Taylor's & they went to C.Conway's and came back in the evening- Reu Taylor came here & dined with B.Taylor & me.
