31 [219] DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR, 1792, 1792, December, 28, Continues very cold & hazy- Raised a house intended for Overseer to live in. Carpenter Moses at work upon it. 29, Very great white frost-fine mild day- Cha's Taylor came over to have his sheep driven home, which he bought at the sale- He bo't the 3rd & last lots, Mr.C.Holloway having bought the 4th & having wrote that he wished either C.Taylor or myself wou'd take his lot- C.Taylor agreed to do so- and the 3rd, 4th & 5th Lots of 7 each were taken away by G.Taylor. I sent to J.Taylor's requesting him & sons-in-law to dine here, but he sent answer he & J.Pendleton were going to Mr.B.Porters- so that C.Taylor & I concluded we would go there likewise, w'ch we did- Col.T.Barbour, Maj'r A Barbour & families, J.Pendleton, Abner Porter (who got home from Georgia the 26th instant) Kemp Porter, W.Porter &c &c were there- Abner Porter said the People in Georgia were very sickly and that he had not so high an opinion of the country there being desirable as when formerly there- Col.Barbour asked me to visit him when J.Taylor will, some time next month. J.Taylor & I came by Court house. No Newspapers. 30, Moderate weather and dry. I staid at home and dined alone. J.Taylor sent me two Newspapers. --[SUNDAY]-- 31, Fine mild day, a little windy. Mr.John Waugh sent and got the 2 pair of Oxen he bought at the sale- I rode to Court house, sent letters for Col'o Madison, Bro'r Richard & Benjamin & F.S.Taylor, to Fredericksburg by a Mr.Waddill an acquaint' of Mr.Howard's. I came by Mr.T.Bell's, who agreed to let Robin come here to morrow to get boards to finish the house begun for the Overseer. Moses is to go tomorrow to Mr.John Waugh's, who has hired him of his Master. I had a Hnd of Corn filled in Corn house for my use. The winter has been hitherto dry and mild. I dined at Mr.T.Bell's- Capt Burnley & family- Reuben Burnley, Mr.Merewether, Mr.C.P.Howard, Mr.Waddill, Jenny Taylor & Milley Glassil there.
