1798,
February.
15, Sharp frost. Fair morning, cloudy evening. Reuben Taylor dined with me, and trimmed my hair. Nancy Taylor and Lucy Barbour called here returning from Foxes store,staid an hour and went to J.T's to dinner. Sent 2 Turkey cocks & 1 hen to Mrs Steward by George.
16, Friday, A little snow last night, did not hide the earth. Cloudy cool day. Frank rode horse colt to C't house & brought R.Taylor's paper. Julian King was here, I gave him Cabbage seeds. I was very unwell last night,took Castor oil to day.
17, Sharp frost- Clear. After dinner I went to J.Taylors- Jno Pendleton got there from Culpeper, his family & J.Taylor jrs wife was there- J.Taylor Jr gone to T.Barbour's, Madison. I carried 20 yards Country cotton to get E.Pendleton to make me 2 pair sheetes.
18, Sunday, Cold- Pale Sunshine. I have a sore foot & more unwell than common, did not go to Church. Went to J.Taylor's to dinner. J.Pendleton & family & J.Taylor jr's wife there.
19, Cloudy morning.Began to snow with sleet 11 o'clock, all day, and continued at night, then about 3 inches. I staid home, my foot sore,but not so much as yesterday.
20, Snow mist all night, did not increase the depth much being about 3 inches- Cloud morning,some sunshine afterwards-near half the snow melted. I was at home all day.
21, Wednesday. Thick cloudy morning- Rainy evening & in night. Mr.C.P.Howard sent me 2 boxes Anti-bilious pills and for Onion seed,which I sent him. E. Pendleton sent the Sheets I left for her to make, I sent at request 2 anti-bilious pills
22, Fair,moderate-The snow melted,about half. C.P.Howard, Ch's Taylor, J.Taylor, J.Taylor jr. and Wm Morore jun'r. dined here.
23, Cloudy morn. Mist & rain afternoon. Charles Taylor came early this morrow to borrow 80 dollars for G.C.Taylor who had wrote to desire C.T. to do it, for the purpose of repaying that sum to Mr.Fra's Walker, of whom he had borrowed. Mr.Walker sent his man,Matt, for the same. I let C.Taylor have 80 dollars which he delivered to F.Walker's servent,Mat., C.Taylor returned after breakfast- Tho's Bell sent Davy for Apples- Sent seven, he stil continues very ill
25, Sunday, Rained some last night, cloudy & drops of rain to day. The weather mild I went to C.Taylor's, he wa gone to Col.L.Taliaferro's. Philip Barbour(son of James)was there, and went home after dinner.
26, Some clouds & cool morning- fair evening.I went to court. Paid Robert Cawthon 8/- for Eight Pine trees got last year for slabs, from E.Langham's land. Bought 1/2 a cheese 5 lb at 1/- of Huxter, or Cakeman. I dined at home in evening. D.Triplett promised to send for Wheat as soon as roads good.
27, A slight frost. Fair pleasant day- Frogs cried. I walked to Court house;read Newspapers- Came by J.Taylor's-that family fone to Mr Burnley's. I got home at 2 o'clock to dinner. Bought 9 carp of Willis's Bob at night.
28, Cloudy morn, Snowy evening- ab't 2 inches by night. Sowed Clover seed in Orchard field. Began to burn Seed patch by the road. Went to J.Taylor's- Rob't Taylor & wife- J.Pendleton & family, John Moore, Rob't Moore, Ch's Bell & J. Taylor jr & family dined there.
