July,
7, [Continued], he had some Brown sugar w'ch he said he expected was for me, but I did not take it. Mrs Burnley sent home one of my new shirts. Finished stacking wheat from Mountain.
8, Sunday, Fair pleasant morning. Heavy rain(with wind that Laid the Corn)in the evening. I went to J.Taylor's- J.Taylor jr & wife at Maj'r Moore's. Nancy not
ret'd from Springs. Expected this evening. J.Taylor jr &c intend to Springs tomorrow.
9, Fair & pleasant day. Killed a Shoat, gave M.Biggers a hind quarter. Carried Wheat from Orchard to Wheat yard & stacked. Stacked Oats. Got Hogs into Mountain field.
10, Hazy,warm-sunny middle of day. Clouds in evening. I went to D.Tripletts-bought sundries $3.0.4 1/4 he promised to Send me a loaf sugar a 2/1 1/2 lb in some Rolls I left at the store- He gave me Cap't Jas Taylor's acco't, am't $3.10.10, which I agreed come time ago should be charged in my account. I got home about 2 o'clock.
11, Fair. I walked in evening to Court house-read Newspapers & returned. I saw J. Taylor & C.P.Howard,who promised to dine with me tomorrow. Had the Geese picked (Frank says 40).
12, Fair and pleasant. J.Taylor,C.Taylor,Reuben Taylor & C.P.Howard dined here-I expected Rob't Taylor,but he did not come.
13, Clouds & drops rain morn. James Taylor came here & got 12 Gammons & 8 Shoulders Bacon Wt.205 lb, Which cart carried away. I took Jallap & Ipecac. I went to J.Taylor's in evening, rec'd of him 50 dollars. M.Biggers got 1/2 Bus' Salt,had 1 Bushel before making 1 1/2 allowed him.
14, Fair day, after a little fog & clouds in morning. Mrs Burnley sent home 2 Shirts made for me. Col.B.Johnson was here in evening, had been to the Office to get the order recommending Sheriff & wanted me to copy it, but I declined doing it. Sowed in N.East of Garden, Turnep seed came fron Mrs Battaile's. Winter do. Cabbage & Cresses seeds.
15, Sunday, Fair till evening- Then cloudy with some drops rain. I walked to Court house, heard Mr.O'Neil preach- The audience thin. Came by Aunt Taylor's- Col. Madison jr[after President], Mr.D.Triplett, Reuben Burnley & Rob't Taylor dined there & C.P.Howard, Col.J.Madison r's, Wm Madison's, Rob't Taylor's C.P.Howard's, wives went to Mrs Burnley's to dinner. T.Barbour & family came last evening to J.Taylor's & both families went to the Springs to day. J.Taylor went yesterday.
16, Rained last night, rain continued, light rain most of the day. Took out 12th Hhd Corn- Sent 2 Bags to Mill. Alex'r Finnel bought a Gammon 11 lb & a Midling 10 lb-is 21 lb Bacon, paid 9/- to pay 12/- at Court. George carried it away. G.C.Taylor's Tom came here in evening to go to work.
17, Very wet Fog in morn. Brisk shower in evening. G.C.Taylor' Tom went to work this morning- He had worked 3 days before he went to C.Taylor's. Old George brought the Rolls I got at D.Triplett's the 10th instant. Also a Loaf Sugar, marked 6.1. in bad order. I rode to Called Court on 2 Slaves charged w'th stealing money from Humphreys at the Springs. They were acquitted,for want of sufficient proof.
18, Rainy last night, some this morning, cloudy dark and warm,some drops rain,clear evening. Macon Biggers- Tom,Davy & Little Peter went to get Pines for slabs on the Land I entered over Road near S.Fox'es. I carried Thickset &c to Mrs Burnley's to get a pr Breeches made- left a pair to measure by- Paid her 7/6 being 1/6 over what I owed for making Shirts. I ret'd to dinner. In evening walked to Court house- read Newspapers.
19, Clear and cool. Wm.Finnel got some Winter Turnep seed. Stephen Fox came & bought & paid for 3 pieces, 39 lb bacon. I gave him Turnep seed. Tom Cieled my lodging room.
