DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR, 1787,

August,
5, [Sunday] G.Taylor dined at J.Taylors. Luck went away in the morning- C.Dickinson & F.T. dined here, Cloudy evening.
6, Rain in the night and continued in the morning which prevented my going for some Tables made by W.Gibson- Luck came to breakfast and set off after to Mr.A.Waugh's where he is to make Bricks. Mr.Dickinson went to Whitewashing. C.Dickinson bagan to paint in Evening. Cleared & Did not rain after morning.
7, J.Pendleton went with me to W.Carties & peter went with Cart for 2 Large & 2 Sqr small Tables made by W.Gibson- Gibson was from home, we got the Tables & a knife box- I left with Mrs.Cartie 1 H.Joe heavy for Wm Gibson, on our return stopped at Adams's Mill- a good shower of rain there but did not extend far. Tables got damp & got home about an hour by Sun in evening-E.Dickinson finished whitewashing & in the evening went to painting.
8 Invited with my father to Uncle Taylors-we went & found there, Maj'r Moore & family, Reu Taylor & do. J.Taylor & do. Majr Lee & do Hub Taylor Zach Taylor-Capt Burnley & do Mrs Balmain, After dinner the men (except Uncle Taylor) went to Court house- Saw ColBuford & John Finnie going to Richmond- gave the latter an Int Warrant for £2.13. to draw the money from Treasury- Finnie came by Jon'n Taylors who wrote to G.Taylor that he and his family were well & Finnie says he will be next tuesday at O.Courthouse on return and will convey any letters to Jon'n Taylor.

9, G.Taylor went to Col Madisons- I walked to peach orchard, saw Jos Clark who says he thinks it will be worth getting peaches to make brandy.
10, Bro'r James walked over but did not stay, Cloudy evening but no rain.
11, I went to Muster, not well. Five players Quarrelsome. The oil exhausted. C.Dickinson & Elisha left off painting- Inside done and some windows primed.
12, [Sunday] E.Dickinson went to Uncle Taylors. G.T., Ch's Dickinson & self went to Church- C.D. went on to Louisa Court-Mr Waddill preached- G.T.-Ch' Taylor & F.T. dined at J.Taylors-
13, Col.Madison & Uncle Taylor set out for ColPendletons. Sent 2 good p's Bacon to Coopers at Jos.Clarks- Shepherds Waggon del'd at the road some Rum & sundry small articles for G.Taylor. Began to clean & scower the house- Borrowed H.Taylor's Fan to Clean wheat
14, Brought upon horses 66 Bus' Wheat put in cellar & 3 Bushels in Bag to send to Mill in all 69 Bus' Jos Clark says he measured the Crop 96 Bus's his share 12 1/2 Bus' I went to Mr.Shepherds Shop, had Horse Shoes removed-dined at Mr.Shepherds with Mr Downey. The Cart returned H.Taylors Fan in evening & brought 1 1/2 doz Chairs which came up from Caroline, 1/2 doz of the Chairs are for J.Taylor. C.Dickinson Ret'd from Louisa Court at night.
15, J.Taylor walked here to see C.Dickinson & ret'd Jos Clark breakfasted with us C.D. went to work for Rob Taylor.G.T. rode to Court house he dined at Mr Mr Shepherds and got Newspapers. J.Taylor sent for 1/2 doz Chairs w'ch Tom &c carried- Made Frank pick wheat-
16, Cloudy last night & some drops rain-Sent Frank to Mill with wheat. C.T.went to C.Taylors & J.Taylors, did not stay. Frank brought Flour home.
17, G.T. & I went to C.Taylors- Dined there with J.Taylor, J.Pendleton & T.Barbour- Cloudy but no rain.
18, I went with G.Taylor to J.Taylors & dined. Rob't Taylor was there- clear-
19, Clear & cool in morning- Saw a fire at Uncle Taylors last night which I think burnt his stable. Sent some of my wine to C.Taylor to carry with him to the Dutch Doctor in Shenandoah- G.T. & I went to Hub Taylors to dinner heard the fire at uncle Taylors was a Hen house of the negroes.
