24 [212] DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR, 1792, 1792, October, 25, Rained a few drops before day- Mrs Burnley walked here to see my father & ret'd 12 o'clock. Had about 30 gallons of Crab & White Apple Cider made. This being the day appointed by Barbour & Webb for the Arbitrator's to meet, C.Taylor & I having sat up last night did not go till past 12 o'clock when Col.Barbour rode here and at his request(tho' not well) I went with him & dined at Nooe's. They did not finish their business but desired the Com'rs would meet the 27-to draw their award &c. J.Taylor was here but returned. C.Taylor staid till evening. Mr C.Pitt Howard came here in evening, brought a pair Stout Shoes, he had bought for me at Richmond for which I had sent money, 2 dollars. Mr Howard staid & sat up with my father first of night- 26, Jas Taylor was here by day, but ret'd home soon- C.Taylor came soon after- Mr Howard went hom after Breakfast- Weather smoky and warm. My father seems something better & much easier than since last week. Rob't Taylor & Jas Taylor here this night. 27, My father continues nearly as yesterday. Rob't Taylor went away after Breakfast C.Taylor came by and I went with him to a meeting of the Co'rs about Barbour & Webbs accounts, but we cou'd not conclude the business- W.Webb was present a little while before dinner & Maj'r Madison in evening. Maj'r Madison came here and sat up with my father. Reuben Taylor came after breakfast and staid to set up. Mr T.Bell dined here- Had Apples beat and made some Cider, part water put with the juice. 28, [SUNDAY] Maj'r Madison went away before breakfast and Reu Taylor in evening, my father continues very low and weak- C.Taylor set up the first and J.Taylor the latter part of the night. Benny & G.C.Taylor with them. J.Taylor heard at Church that my father was much worse & called here but went home to dinner. 29, My father nearly as for some days past- Maj'r Moore and Reuben Taylor came here 'forenoon the latter did not stay long- Uncle Taylor here afternoon- C.Taylor has been here as constantly as he conveniently could- Rob't Taylor and John Moore came here in evening to sit up with my father. 30, The weather has been very smoky for a week & warm with some thin clouds- There fell a very little rain about day-break. Rob Taylor & Jno Moore went home early- I went to Court house, the Arbitrators between Barbour, Webb & Madison met and made their award. W.Webb to pay to T.Barbour £94.13.4. with interest from 1 Jan'y 1785. W.C.Webb to pay A Madison £6.13.10. & T.Barbour to pay A.Madison £6.13.10, the respective sums to be paid by the first January next- The Account between Barbour & Webb for the Collection of the Revenue tax for the year 1784, by their mutual request, was not settled by us- they having agreed to settle it themselves- one award was given to T.Barbour & another to W.C. Webb. C.Taylor came home with me & then home. James Taylor came & sat up the latter part of this night. 31, Close rainy day, but not heavy or cold- C.Taylor was here in morning and at night Maj'r Madison came here, I gave him one of the awards made yesterday. He and Ch's Taylor sat up with us this night- November, 1, Fine mild weather- J.Taylor had some apples brought here and beat for Cyder. He staid till evening- Col.Madison & Mrs Madison were here to see my father and dined, Uncle Taylor was here after dinner- Rob't Taylor came at night & sat up with us- 2, A little rain or mist in the morning. C.Taylor came over early- Rob't Taylor & he went away before noon. Sent to Court house for Sundry Goods sent by Mess's Blairs for my father which came to hand as p/r letter. Uncle & Aunt Taylor came here in the evening- Capt Burnley & C.Taylor here in evening but did not stay- Ben Taylor taken very ill and went with F.S.Taylor to Ch's Taylor's.
