I went to C.Taylor's, left some Country cloth with Mrs Stuart to make 2 pair breeches- C.Taylor's family went to Maj'r Lee's- I came home and dined with my father- After dinner went to J.Taylor's & staid till evening- Weather still dry. 10, My father sent 1/2 Barrel corn yesterday to Dade's Mill by Syl for Hodge, the Shoe maker & sent Syl to day to carry the Meal (if ground) to him. Went with my father to Uncle Taylor's, John & Rob't Taylor & families. C.Taylor's family & Maj'r Lee's family- Milley Bell & Milley Glassell were there. Heard Sawyer & Cherry Derry at night. 11, I rode to Hodge's- paid him 1/6 for Scaling my Boots, went to Court house and returned home about noon, my father was gone to Capt Burnleys who had sent for him to dinner, I also went there. John Taylor & family, Eliz'a Chew and Nancy dined there. 12, C.Taylor got home yesterday from Fredericksburg- My father sent Moses & got a Loaf Sugar, Nails &c from C.Taylor's. James & C.Taylor came here from J.Taylor's and dined here- We had Punch. C.Taylor got me some medecine &c which he brought and tole me he had left my watch with J.Walker, Watchmaker, to repair &c Mrs Stuart sent me a pair Breeches by Frank- I sent her by C.Taylor for work dome & about- 12/- 13, Cloudy last night but no rain- excessive dry- My father rode to Shoemaker's- but his shoes were not made. A slight shower in the evening- there appeared as if good rains to the North and East. 14, Sowed some Turnep seed in pen by the Spring- Uncle Taylor, John Taylor, Robert Taylor & J.Taylor dined here. I gave Rob't Taylor a copy of Deed from Willis to Chew. Weather clear and cooler than of late. 15, Some clouds this morning but soon clear- warm. Went with my father to Church and heard Mr.Fry preach- he gave notice a sermon would be 4 weeks hence. We came home to dinner. -[SUNDAY]- 16, Warm- My father rode to Doolins & left a pattern for him to make a summer coat of, on his return he dined at Maj'r Lee's w'th Mr T Bell & family. I carried my Jeans Breeches to Mrs Stewart to have cut shorter at the Knees- called at Ch's Taylor's & left 1/2 lb. Cream Tartar I ground for him. I paid 3/- to Mrs Stewart for making Cloaths 8/- for Coat & 7/- for 2 pair Breeches- ret'd home to dinner. Some light showers in the evening and very cloudy. 17, Rained moderately most of last night, a Delightful moderate rain till towards noon, continues warm. Planted Cabbages in the Garden- J.Taylor sent and got about 300 plants. In evening my father rode to Doolins to carry something about the Coat. Sowed the upper part of Turnep patch by Cow-pasture but before it cloud be all sowed- a heavy rain with a smart ind prevented sowing the rest. C.Taylor sent here and had 2 Gammons, 2 Shoulders and 2 Midlings Bacond, 56 lbs. 18, I took a dose of Salts this morning-last night Aloe pills. Ch's Taylor called here, said the axle of his cart going with provisions &c to the Springs was broke down & got Moses to help make a new one- The wheels broke afterwards and was obliged to return home- C.T. went to Shoemaker's. The Bacon was washed in Lye and Sunned- Col Madison jr & Maj'r Madison came here at Sunset, they had been to the Springs to day. Had the balance of Turnep patch sown in evening- I mixed some Cabbage seed in the last & Onion do. 19, Col.Madison, jr, Maj'r Madison, my father & I went to J.Taylor's. Uncle Taylor, John Taylor & family, Jenny Taylor, Milly Bell, Milly Glassell and Reuben Taylor dined there- Col & A.Madison went home in the evening. Ch Taylor, his wife & some of his children went to the Springs- Miss Molly Conway & 2 of the children went to Capt Conway's. Fair weather and warm.
