2 revisions | michellezitney at May 25, 2020 08:28 PM 21420 [208] DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR, 1792, 1792, September, 6, My father rode to Mr.Shepherd's store: when he returned, Sent Peter with sledge for a Sack Salt &c for him, and some trifles for C.Taylor- Ch's Taylor dined here & Peter returned & brought his & my father's things- I settled acc't with C.Taylor, who paid me a balance of 4/11 in full of his account, to this date. 7, My father, G.C.Taylor and I went to C.Taylor's, Ja's Taylor and son were there- Very dry weather & warmer than for the last week- 8, C.Taylor & J.Taylor jr called here. I went with them to Cook's to a Shooting match, we dined there and had a good Company. Heard that Hay Battaile's wife died the 5th instant- Very warm and dry weather. 9, Very warm with some clouds. A light shower in the evening. Appeared as if good rains below. -[SUNDAY]- 10, My father rode to Overseer's-to Court house and came to Uncle Taylor's- I walked there with G.C.Taylor-John Taylor came up from Fred'g yesterday & was there & his family- Mrs Macon also dined there- Rob't Taylor's wife was there in evening- Caleb Oliver got marriage Licence to Nancy White- R'd White Sec'y. I gave the bond & 2/9 to J.Taylor jr the 11th- B.Hyde called at E.Taylor's- Rob't Taylor sent for & got my father's Still to make Apple Brandy- very cool day. 11, Cool and cloudy morning- clear evening. Uncle Taylor, John Taylor, Rob't Taylor, Charles Taylor, Mr.T.Bell and J.Taylor jun'r dined here- Bro'r James returned from J.Pendleton's, and after dinner walked here and from here went to see Maj'r Lee, who I hear intends to set off tomorrow morning to Richmond. 12, Last night not so cold as the preceding. some flying clouds. My father went to D.Davis's, thence to C't house & dined at Nooe's. G.C.Taylor went by Uncle Taylor's to Nooe's, dined at E.Taylor's- 13, Clear dry weather- Began to gather Blades in Corn field next the house. G.C.Taylor staid last night at Mr.Shepherd's- dined to day at J.Taylor's & came home in evening. 14, I rode to Nooe's, it being the day appointed by Barbour & Webb to meet on their arbitration, Mr Nooe said he heard it was deferred. C.Taylor & myself were all who met- C.Taylor called by & eat Watermelons & peaches but went home to dinner- 15, Cloudy last night- began to rain before sunrise. G.C.Taylor went to Uncle Taylor's to Breakfast, being sent for and informed of a Mr.Cosby being there, with whom he wanted to get acquainted. Rained constantly till in the night, there was plenty and fell moderately. --[SUNDAY]-- 17, Ceased rain last night- some clouds but no rain to day. G.C.Taylor came from Uncle Taylor's after Breakfast- J's Barbour jr. came here in evening & staid. John Taylor (of Kentucky) called here in evening but made very little stay. 18, Cool and clear- J's Barbour went away after breakfast- Had Apples gathered from the Orchard at the Quarter & put into Chest in the Cellar, also some Crab apples. J.Taylor & J.Taylor jr dined here- in the evening G.C.Taylor went to Mr.T.Bell's. 19, My father & I dined at J.Taylor's. T.Barbour jr's wife & family there. he set out for Philadelphia yesterday morning. Cloudy day, rainy evening & cont'd in the night. 20, Very cool and windy and clear- G.C.Taylor came home & went to Mrs Dade's- Jas.Bell came home with him at night- I made some Marmalade. 21, Smart frost this morning, but did very little injury about the Mountains, tender vines only being affected; Some places fodder &c was hurt. I rode to Court house- William Shepherd got to his father's from Scotland- Saw WmDaingerfield at Court house- Barbour, Webb & Madison and Commissioners met at Nooe's but made very little progress towards settling the accounts of Barbour & Webb. The Com'rs were of opinion A.Madison was intitled to a Balance at the End of their Concern w'ch was about April 1779 when the Tob'o was sold in which he was concerned with them.
