25[280] DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR,1795, 1795, December, 28, [Continued- Note- *Mrs Sarah Thomas- *She was not 'Aunt Thomas,' i.e. Mildred Taylor, dau. of James Taylor 2nd., who m. Richard Thomas, of Granger Co., and whodied in 1790. This Mrs Thomas was probably the mother of Mary Thomas who m'd Col.John Barbour, as James Barbour was her Executor-A.G.G.] 29, Frost, Fair morning- Cloudy mild evening- J.Taylor sent for a Wether. I sent him one of my best. I went to Court house- Maj'r Moore,J.Taylor & self made a division of the Slaves remaining of Wm Bell's dec'd Estate amongst, Wm Bell,Tho's Bell & James Bell, p/r order of High Court of Chancery,but acted for him- Dined at Nooe's [Tho's Bell above mentioned, m'd Elizabeth Taylor, dau of Zachary Taylor and his wife, Eliabeth Lee.-WKA] 30, Wednesday, Warm, a little rain-last night- some clouds with very little rain at night. I went to James Taylor's- J.Taylor jr & bride got home Yesterday. A large & genteel Company Collected and were very merry- I staid till after supper- Phil Barbour(of James), P.Barbour(of Thomas), William Barbour(of Ambrose), & George Pendleton came over with me. 31, Mild weather- some rain at night- After breakfast my Company & I went to J.Taylor's, a good many remained all night & others came again to day. I staid till near night & came home- Col.Jas Barbour came with me. The weather to this time has been uncommonly mild, very moderate frosts- & little ice. I have not seen frozen milk- nor 1/2 inch thick on water in vessels exposed to open air.
