[121] 7 DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR, 1789, 1789, March, 26, G.C.T. went to Wm.Madison's- I went w'th G.Taylor to Court, dined at Wood's who would not take pay for it. 27, Capt Burnley came and spayed 14 sows & shoats and went home after breakfast. My father bottled cyder that came from Hub'd Taylor's. G.C.T. ret'd from Wm. Madison's- 28, Cloudy, windy last night and this morning- One shoat spayed yesterday whose guts came out killed this morning- Peter went with Cart to Hub'd Taylor's for Hay. J.Taylor came to enquire if he had lent me some papers (Copy Beverley's acco't) which had not, and returned immediately. Rainy and windy, but not much rain. 29, [Sunday] Clear in morning, hazy in evening. G.C.T. went from home to Hub'd Taylor's after breakfast, the rest of family dined at home- G.C.T. said James Taylor (son of Col.Francis), who came to Bro'r James's last night, was at Hubbard Taylor's. [This James Taylor was born Nov.17, 1749, m. Miss. Moorman and went to North Carolina- He was son of Col.Francis and Ann (Craddock) Taylor- I have been unable to trace his descendants-PFT] 30, Thunder, lightning and some rain in the morning. I went shooting, killed two snipes- Capt Burnley dined here. I gave him some snap beans to plant. Thunder & good shower of rain in evening, 31, Went with G.Taylor to where Mr. F.Taliaferro is building a Mill, there was a good company, good dinner, plenty of Fish, grog & oyder. Hub'd Taylor desired I would lend him an Int warrant to pay tax of Louisa land. Ja's Taylor (of Franklyn) was there. April, 1, Wrote to Benj'a Taylor. Also to Hubbard Taylor and inclosed him an interest Warrant for £4:15:11. and sent them by George to Hub'd Taylor who is going to Caroline to-day with his cousin James. I sent some Indian peas by George to Reuben Taylors for Mrs Taliaferro. Cool morning, a few drops of rain- some snow on Great Mountains- 2, Capt Burnley came here early- after breakfast I went with him to Moses Perry's where he Spayed 15 sow and shoats- We came back to dinner. Mr.Goodlett was here at noon to know id Rich'd Taylor is to learn Latin. In evening I went w'th Capt Burnley to school house- Very clear morning, hazy evening. [Richard 11 1/2 years old-WKA] 3, Had 5 rows peas sown in S.E. corner of garden. I went with G.Taylor & G.C.T. to Mr.T.Bell's to dinner, J.Taylor & wife, C.Taylor, John Bell & wife & R'd Burnley's daughter was there- C.Taylor came here before we went & got some red snap beans- rained a little. 4, I went with Frank & my nephews to Capt Wood's place and got some Cherry & Damson trees & had them planted. Saw some Cherry blossoms at Capt Woods plantation. G.C.T. and G.T. dined at C.Taylor's. Maj'r Madison was here in afternoon, wanted some business in Clerk's office & said J.Taylor was from home- he staid about two hours and went to office again. 5, [Sunday] We all went to Church, Mr.Woodville preached to a good Congregation- last Sunday he preached at Pine Stake to a larger Congregation. Mr.F.Taliaferro gave me some parsnip seed. G.C.T., nephews and I walked to Church, the former dined at Maj'r Moore's- G.Taylor and the latter went to J.Taylor's- John & Bowie Pendleton, Mr.Reader, T.Barbour Jr. C.Taylor & family, Richard & James Barbour (sons of Col Thom's) dined there. Sold a Regimental Coat to Waugh's Billy for 20/- Frank began to ride my mare, fine weather, dry. Cherries blossomed at Midland. 6. Rainy day-some thunder-wrote to Rich'd Taylor [Commodore-WKA] & Mr.W.Thompson by Cousin Rob Taylor- Boys went to School-nobody there. G.C.T. went to Uncle Taylor's-Heard Mocking-bird sing. 7, Cleared in morning-very windy and cool-G.C.T. came from uncle Taylor's early & after breakfast went to Maj'r Madison's.
