DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR, 1789,

4, Sent my father's little mare & mine to Maj'r Moore's- the Horse had not got there but S.Thompson brought him to Midland & covered him on my father's mare. mine refused to take him. I went to C.Taylor's. Frank and Will sawed four Poplar Gums. C.Taylor went to Maj'r Madison's who is sick- I dined with Misses Nancy & Milley Bells- M.Fall &c. A few drops rain in afternoon.
5, Old George brought a cover to lay on bed-cords and a basket which I bought for 4/- J.Pendleton came here and I went with him to C.Taylor's. J.Taylor & family his daughters, M.Fall, dined there. Mrs Belmain & Jenny Taylor came after dinner. C.Taylor went to Maj'r Moore's to visit Mrs Moore. A very little rain.
6, Walked to Rob't Taylor, dined there with Jas Taylor, John Pendleton & wife, T.Barbour's wife, Edm'd & Betsy Pendleton (sister of R.Taylor's wife) Came by Mr.Shepherd's & bought a bowl, ret'd by J.Taylor's and borrow'd 2d Vol Debates. Rob't Taylor returned Mr Thompson's Order on H.Mitchell & brought a Rec't for the notes of Tobacco from Font'e Maury, to be shipped Mr.J:Maury &c.
7, Sold my old blue coat to Hudson's James who paid 10/6 & promises to pay 1/6 a fortnight hence. I dined alone on the last Gammon old bacon- After dinner Jonathan Taylor with his daughter *Polly came here and dined- C.Taylor & Reuben were here an hour or two. A little rain to-day.-[*"Polly," Mary Berry Taylor, dau of Jonathan & Ann (Berry) Taylor, b.1771, m.1790, as his first wife, George Gibson Taylor, eldest son of Capt.Edmund and Sarah (Stubbs) Taylor, her first cousin. 8, Shearing sheep, G.C. Taylor got home from Caroline, breakfasted at H.Taylor's who came up with him. We all went to J.Taylor's, Henry Pendleton & sister, T.Barbour & wife, E.Pendleton, Miss M.Conway &c were there-
9, J.Taylor came by in the morning & changed some silver for gold to carry to Richmond. I let him have Int. Warrants £9-re-Planted Cimbling & Cucumber seed in garden. Jon'a Taylor, G.C.T. and I dined at C.Taylor's who is unwell- a little rain at night.
10, We went to H.Taylor's, Uncle Taylor & family, Mrs Belmain, Maj'r Moore & family Reu Taylor & do. & Miss Throckmorton there- A good Shower, a little hail. Jon'a & G.C.T. staid, I came home.
11. Jon'a Taylor & G.C.T.aylor came by & walked to Uncle Taylor's. Polly Taylor, Miss Caty Pendleton & J.Pendleton J.Taylor's, Mrs Dade, Capt Burnley & ife, Mrs Balmain & Rob't Taylor's wife were there- a fine shower to-day. bro'r Jon'a came here, his daughter to James Taylor's.
12, We went to C.Taylor's from here, Polly Taylor from J.Taylor's- C.Taylor (who has been very sick) is recovering. Polly Taylor staid at C.Taylor's. Reuben Taylor was there.
13, Packed up 17 Midlings, 12 in box & 5 in tub. Sent 3 bus Wheat to Mill & got flour. Jon'a Taylor dined at C.Taylor's G.C.T. at Capt Dade's I fixed 2 bee hives. Capt Burnley dined with me.
14, [Sunday] Went to Reuben Taylor's. bro'r James & family, H.Taylor & do. Jon'a Taylor & daughter, H.Pendleton & Miss Caty, J.Pendleton & family, T.Barbour's do dined there- Richard & Colby Taylor got up. G.C.T. went with Jenny Taylor to Col.Madison's & ret'd.
15, Richard & Colby Taylor got up from Caroline. One of them rode a Mare which is to stay, of Benj'a Taylor's. G.C.Taylor went to H.Taylor's, Jon'a Taylor & daughter there. I staid at home.
16, Capt Burnley sent for me to dinner. Jon. Taylor & Daughter, H.Taylor, G.C.Taylor Mrs Balmain, Jenny Tayor, Row'd Thomas jr's wife & Miss Parker dined there. Jon'a Taylor & daughter went at night to J.Taylor's. Dry weather-
17 G.C.T. went to C.Taylor's to go w'th Mrs Conway to Col.Madison's- I walked to J.Taylor's, but he and family went to Mr.T.Bell's & I returned. Jon'a Taylor & daughter went to C.Taylor's- had some Irish potatoes planted. G.Taylor got up from Caroline. He lost his horse at B.Robinson's & bor'd a beast from him.
18, Went with G.Taylor & Jon'a Taylor to Rob Taylor's and dined there- Col.E.Pendleton jr, his wife & daughters & Uncle Taylor were there.
