[140] 1 DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR, 1790, 1790, January, 1, My father wrote to Mr.Blair [one of the tutors at the Academy in Hanover] that he would see the money paid for boarding F.S.Taylor this year. I wrote to bro' Richard that bro'rs James & Charles say they will pay a proportion. I sent £4.2.0 to R'd Taylor for the use of F.S.Taylor, my part, J.Taylor walked here in evening- F.S.Taylor after dinner went to Uncle Taylor's and returned. 2, F.S.Taylor set off after an early breakfast on his journey to Richard Taylor's from whence he expects on Monday next to go w'th Thompson Taylor to the Academy- remarkable fine weather. Frogs crying as they did last week. 3, [SUNDAY] Fine weather continues. I went with my father to Ja Taylor's. Harry has got almost well but very poor. Gibson was taken ill this morning and has a high fever. E.Pendleton------- & children there, their husb----- 4, I went to Store & in --------- Taylors, but sa his --------- with Maj'r Lee- M ---------- & Maj'r Lee invited m------- Mr T.Bell, his wife & ------- John Bell & wife, Old Mrs Ba--- & Mr.Bell bo't Liddy of Caroline---- [Leaf destroyed here] 5, A little rain & snow. Hung up meat of the 16 Hogs killed last month. Jas Taylor & John Pendleton came over, my father sent for C.Taylor who came & they dined here- Cleared in evening, the weather which was warm turned cold to-day. 6, Cold morning, Turned cloudy & in the evening very cold and snow, hardly hid the earth. 7, Cool morning & damp, turned windy & warm. Reuben Taylor got home last night, brought my horse & got his this morning- I went with G.Taylor to Uncle Taylor's and dined, Aunt Thomas was there. -------Taylor came here, intended to Wm Clarks ------- did not go-but went to J.Taylor's ------------ Old Mrs Gaines was there, Harry --------------- & family, T.Barbour & do. -------------------------- Beeves ----------- ore Quarter 125 lb hind ---------------- lb the whole 512 lb Tallow ------------- st of Kidney fat 32 lb [Leaf destroyed here] J.Taylor & son, John & Harry Pendleton and T.Barbour dined here. 10, Fine moderate weather for the season- Capt Conway sent me some roots & seeds of the White Asparagus- 11, Snowed very fast from sunrise till 12 o'clock. Rained & hail till night, the snow 2 or 3 inches deep, heard that Col.Madison jr is very sick at Georgetown, Maryland. 12, Cleared last night, some clouds to-day & cool- Heard that T.Barbourhad a son born the 10th at J.Taylor's. Capt Burnley was here in evening. I got him to to see Rachel who is sick & came ------ to Mr.Wilson's, who has ----------- ck ----- 13, H'd Taylor sent & bor'd ---- Mr. Goodlet came h------ Taylor's sale, there----- him put off the sale ---- Absalom brought up sa----- & their children from Freder----- [Leaf destroyed here] 14, Cloudy, foggy and a little rain. J.Taylor & son, John, Henry & Bowie Pendleton and T.Barbour dined here. Hub'd Taylor came here at night, he had a bad cold. 15, Rained in the night, cloudy day & small rain. John Carter came to see H.Taylor- J.Pendleton came and H.Taylor went with him to old place. Bro'r James told me yesterday he would give us some Cider.
