August, 6, I rode to Court house & brought & p'd for Sundries at Maj'r Lee's for myself- and a Jug for my father 2/- which was charged to him- A heavy rain fell hastily about 2 o'clock, with wind & thunder- warm evening- J.Taylor & C.T. here after dinner.
7, I went with Dicky & Colby to C.Taylor, saw Reu.Taylor's wife & Miss P.Moore going from C.T. to J.Taylor's- I tried on my Coat making by Mrs Steward- Got some Apples & ret'd to dinner. Several shower of rain & very wet evening. Capt Burnley here at noon, bor'd bottle brandy.
8, [SUNDAY] C.T. (who has been contantly twice a day to dress my father's leg) came to breakfast, ret'd home & to Dinner & at night. Mrs Burnley sent two bottles honey & exchanged them for Molasses. Very wet evening.
9, John Taylor sent my saddle &c home & word that he wou'd dine here. rainy morning. Uncle Taylor, Jno Taylor, Wm Gilbert, J.Taylor & C.Taylor dined here. Shower in evening.
10, Foggy morning and some clouds- a very little rain in evening. My father rode & I walked to J.Taylor's- Uncle Taylor & family, John Taylor & do. Mrs Burnley, Capt Conway & Ch Taylor dined there-
11, I rode with C.Taylor to store, it rained a little- Mr.T.Bell & C.Taylor dined here.
12, I walked and my father rode to C.Taylor's. I car'd my new Coat for Mrs Stewart to alter. Aunt Taylor, bro'r James & family & Mrs James dined there- did not rain much to day. Sowed Sundry seeds in garden-
13, Fine weather, having cleared. Col Madison called here & staid from 11 o'clock to 1, & went to dine at C.Taylor's, where Mrs Macon &c were gone to see Miss M.Conway.-M.Perry had Turnep seed to sow in Tob'o ground.
14, Bro'r James came over & my father promised to let him have 6 bus Corn at 3/- pr bushel. I rode by his house & Rob't Taylors to Court house & returned to dinner- Thunder shower- Had Shoes on Mare removed at Mr.Shepherd's Shop.
15, [SUNDAY] Very warm last night & this morning. G.C.Taylor came home from Caroline, from Capt.Conway's to day, called by a Methodist meeting at Mr.Proctor's & got home to dinner.
16, There was a little rain here, a black cloud towards Culpeper, being Court day there, C.Taylor borrowed my father's mare to ride there.
17, I rode to Court house with brother Reuben, he came home to dinner with me- Geo.Porter, Jas.Bell & J.Taylor Jr., dined here. G.C.Taylor & the above named went to Court house in the evening- Some Five playing and a foot race for two Dollars between T.Wood & G.C.Taylor- a quarrel happened between the former and J.Taylor Jr., the latter & G.Porter ret'd here.
18, Bro'r James came here in morning and informed that T.Wood had sent a challenge to his son by H.Bell- Bro'r Reuben rode by & went to Court house with J.Taylor Jr. and the parties having met, I understand they settled the dispute without fighting- some concessions being made by both parties. I returned from Court house by Jas Taylor's with Reu Taylor, G.C.Taylor & J.Taylor jr dined there-
19, Weather clear & cooler than for three or four days past, which were very warm- G.C.T. went to Davis's Shop & to Reu Taylor's with J.Taylor jr- C.Taylor bor'd G.Taylor's horse to Maj'r Madison's &c- J.Taylor sent & got 3 bus Corn-
20, Bro'r James walked here in evening and left his newspapers- Wheat, 3 bus' sent to Mill & ground- A little cloudy.
21, Cloudy and a little rain in showers. G.C.Taylor went to Maj'r Madison's- Sowed Blue grass seed over the yard.
22, Cloudy & misty, tho' but little rain. Uncle Taylor & J.Taylor dined here. [SUNDAY] C.Taylor was here but sent for and went to Mr.B.Porter's.
23, C.Taylor came by & went with G.Taylor & I to Court, Dicky & Colby walked there. I paid the Sheriff for Capt Burnley £6.14.0. Int Warrants, being his present Tax due.
