J.Taylor jr returned from Culpeper last night. T.Barbour & family came to J.Taylor's to-day. 27, [SUNDAY] Fine weather. 28, Rained a little, roads bad, We went to Court, I sent letters to Wm. & Hubbard Taylor by Mr.Phil Thomas- Paid H.Taliaferro for cider. Capt White came home with us. March, 1, My father sent wheat to McAusland, Fred'g by Herndon's & Woolfolk's waggons, he found them provisions &c. Sent Rich'd Taylor's mattrass, his sons' Cloathes, Books &c to be lodged at Mr.Blair's. Js Bell came here at night. Capt W.White took my Certificates to draw Int Warrants for me, he intending to Richmond in a few days. 2, I sold 6 Turkey hens to Ambrose Lewis for 12/- C.Taylor breakfasted here- My father let him have a Pot of Butter Wt & pot 35 lb inclusive. We went to C.Taylor's-J.Taylor & son, T.Barbour's wife &c & J.Bell there to dinner, also Mrs Miller (dancing mistress) & a daughter were there. Burnt Plant patch at Quarter. 3, Burnt Plant Patch in partnership with Capt Burnley who was here all day- J.Taylor & family, T.Barbour & do. C.Taylor & James Bell dined here. 4, We went to J.Taylor's- Uncle & Aunt Taylor, C.Taylor & family, T.Barbour & family & Capt Burnley dined there. Both Plant Patches sown. Cabbage seed from Col Pendleton's sown in the new bed, down hill. 5, Bro'r James's wife sent me some peas of the large latter kind- I sent T.Barbour some mixed peas, also Carrot seed- G.C.Taylor went hunting with T.Barbour and caught a Fox- My father rode to Court house & returned to dinner. Sowed peas in the Square left of the Gate- the two farthest rows a large sort from Bro'r James's the others our best sort. Had Turneps taken up & set in rows in the Square next to Cornhouse. Weather warm & dry. 6, [SUNDAY] Rained a little in the morning- Mr.William Taylor, Reu Taylor, J.Taylor & son dined here. Clear & warm evening. 7, Capt Herndon's waggon took a load of Wheat, I sent by the Waggon a keg of Brandy to J.Blair, who promised to send some good rum for it. In evening I carried some shorts to Mrs. Burnley to get new wrist bands, also a yard fine Linen for stocks. Had Lettuce, Cresses, White Mustard & Colwart seeds sown in Asparagus bed. G.C.T. went to Capt Conway's, ret'd at night. 8, My father went to Court house, came by Rob't Taylor's and dined at Uncle Taylor's. G.C.T. and self dined at home, just as we had dined, C.Taylor came in and dined here- he got his saddle bags intending to set off tomorrow to Fred'g 9, I went to Quarter & got some young Apple trees- Heard that Chas. Porter died yesterda- his death was caused by drawing a tooth w'ch turned to a mortification, his corpse bro't to Chinch hall. G.C.T. dined at J.Taylor's. J.Taylor, C.Taylor, Reu Taylor & Maj'r Moore went to Fredericksburg to-day. 10, Rained last evening and night, cloudy to-day- I planted trees (which suppose to be white apple) in the place of the dead ones planted last year, 3d & 4th rows. Also planted Ralls Jennets (grafted last year) in the 5th row from Cherry trees & 6th row the lith-20 trees. 11, Rained last night, weather cloudy & warm- Rained towards noon. Capt.Wm.White came here from Maj'r Moore's before breakfast, he is on his return from Richmond. He returned my Certificates and says the Auditors were so busy that he could not get the Interest warrants due on them. After breakfast he proceeded home. My father rode with him to Court house, came by Rob't Taylor's & dined- 12, Rained a good deal in last night & a little this morning. James Bell, J.Taylor & son dined here. J.Taylor ret'd last night from Fred'g. Had 150 Peach Trees planted near Poplar spring, also Apple nursery in Caslow's pen- the Western row supposed to be White Apple, the others to graft on.
