WARNING: MOST MANUCRIPTS ARE PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT. 9 [173] DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR, 1791, 1791, May, 22, [SUNDAY] Continued- I came by J.Taylor's from Mrs Thomas's- Tho Barbour jr & family got there to-day. 23, My father complained a little of a sore throat, but he and the rest of us went to Court- Mr.Davis, who had my Certificates to get Int.Warrants from Auditors I heard had not got the business done- and as Benj'n Taylor wanted to get the Warrants of me & Mr.Davis had not sent my certificates, he set off in the evening with Reu Sanford to go for them. There was a light thunder shower before day- Richard & Colby Taylor began going to School this day to Mr.Snodgrass. Mr.Holmes brought me to Court a Jacket & pr Breeches, but carried back the Jacket to put more button holes in it. 24, There was afine Rain last night with much lightning & thunder- Planted Cabbages Benj'n Taylor returned about Noon from Mr Davis's & brought my certificates to Court, where we went again to-day, tho' my father complains of Cold & sore throat. 25, I let Benj'a Taylor take my Certificates he is to draw the Int Warrants, which I let him have at 18/- in the pound & to Credit him a year they amount to £54.6.5. My father complains a good deal to-day. Benj'a Taylor, W.R.Taylor & G.C.Taylor set off after breakfast to Caroline- J.Taylor came here & breakfasted. My father sent for C.Taylor, who came over, but being sent for by Mrs Proctor staid but little. A heavy rain & hard wind in the evening. 26, J.Taylor came over to see how my father was, he is something mended, having taken a purge last night which operated this morning- J.Taylor told me his family &c were going to Mrs Thomas's- I walked there, got some Cherries and dined- Maj'r A[mbrose] Barbour & family, Col T.Barbour's family, J.Taylor & family, Harry Pendleton, J.Pendleton's & T.Barbour's jrs family's, Capt. Burnley & Mrs Burnley were there- Came by C.Taylor's, he had been to Mr. Woods and Capt Dade's- the latter very ill, having vomited a quantity of blood last night- Thunder, but only a few drops rain here. 27, Bro'r Reuben rode here. I got him to take 6 yds Drogheda & request his wife to cut me & pair overalls. I killed 2 squirrels- My father still mending- A good shower- 28, My father & I went to Dade's Mill- Reu Taylor called & went with me- Heard Capt Dade died this morning- The River was muddy & bad fishing. We dined on provision we carried- there were not many there- Col.J.Pendleton, John & B.Pendleton gotthere & we came off in thunder. got to Jas Taylor's as the rain began but my father would not stop, but kept on home, he said he did not get wet in his body. There fell a good moderate rain. 29, [SUNDAY] We went to J.Taylor's- Col.Pendleton, J.Pendleton & family, T.Barbour & family, Harry & Bowie Pendleton, were there, I got 2 Bottles Turlington, Wm Alcock left at J.Taylor's, which he bought at Richmond and I had paid him for before. 30, Rec'd a letter from G.C.Taylor with pedigree of B.Taylor's mare- 31, Sent Syl early to Mr.Proctor with pedigree of B.Taylor's mare, Wm.Proctor was not at home. After dinner R.Taylor called here, said his youngest child has very sore eyes & was not going to C.Taylor's. I carried Linen to make Overalls to Mrs Burnley. Capt Burnley not at home-The Sheep were sheared- 32 Sheep yield 108 gross Wool- thereare 13 Lambs.
