Dear Mr. Mewhinney:

The Senate Select Committee on Presidential Campaign Activities has received testimony in Executive Session that in May of 1972, one Larsh B. Mewhinney, Attorney, 235 Manardneck Avenue, White Plains, New York, made a $300 contribution to the Presidential campaign of Senator Edmund Muskie and that Mr. Mewhinney was compensated for the amount of this contribution and income tax obligation by the payment of a bill that he submitted to the Hertz Corporation, for which no services were performed.

Anticipating the publication of the Committee report on or about May 28, 1974, and pursuant to Rule 28 of the Rules of Procedure for the Senate Select Committee on Presidential Campaign Activities, you are hereby being afforded notice of an opportunity to be heard in this matter. You are, of course, under no compulsion to respond. However, please be advised taht if the Committee does not receive a response from you within ten days after receipt of this letter, such lack of response will be construed by the Committee as a waiver of your right to testify or file a statement as provided by the Committee Rules.
