Halled 9 Loads of Ice from the mill pond
2 to 2 1/2 in thick not verry cold [Here?]
This morning 23 Some Snow on the ground
that fell a week ago

Wednesday the 7th January 1857 Halled 9 Loads
of Ice filled our house full it took 51
waggon Loads most of them 4 horse Loads to fill
it Ice 3 in thick to day not verry cold Her
this morning at 23 deg & at [1?] Oclock to day 36
Sun shining nice

Sold 10 Bu Rye to day at $1 - Bu to Giles
Mumford of Mocksville

Wednesday the 14 Jany 1857 Frank Started
to to Chapel Hill this morning he has been there
three Sessions and will graduate in 3
more Negro Georg gone to move John Potts
business this year I give him $140 -
and find him a house & fire wood he will
set in to work in a few days
quite cold for the Last 6 Weeks Ground froze hard

Saturday the 17th January 1857
Bought a Negro boy (Jerry) of Joseph Conrad for
$1000- Big snow storm at night

Minday the 19th Jany 1857 Commenced Snowing
Saturday night & Snowed & Blowed all day
yesterday the coldet Snow Storm I ever saw
Ther at 13 at 2 Oclock & 7 at night of Sunday
This morning the Ter at 5 above zero

My new hand Potts set in to work to day
The Snow is about 12 in Deep on an average
Some places being 3 or 4 ft Deep in the
Drifts Cleared of & the wind still Blowing
