Monday the 9th June 1856 Commenced plowing our corn the 3rd time At noon to day we had a verry hard wind and Rain blowed our wheat down a good deal We set out 1000 potatoe sprouts and Some cabbage plants & then tined corn We were suffering verry much for rain and our oats and Irish Potatoes is cut off a great deal but the rain may revive them so we hope to make a moderate crop of each

Tuesday 10 Wednesday the 11th June Rained both days hard Rains ground thoroughly wet. Sold 150 Dog Oats to different persons in the east 10 days for 12 1/2 cts Doz Sold Saml Spier Two Milk Cows & Calves for $12:50 each & one to Thos Carters wife for $15 00 Selling Corn at 50 cts I have sold out of the Crib about 75 Bu at that price

Friday the 13th June 1856 Commenced Harvesting in the field east of the Store to day clear & cool

Saturday 14 June 1856 Plowed in our corn until noon then cut Wheat

Monday the 16th June 1856 Cut wheat all day with Shower all day this morning wheat too wet to cut We plowed our corn until 8 OClock it then set in to Raining hard & rained all day in showers Cut no wheat today. After it commenced & raining we worked in the Barn moving some old oatsthat had been in the barn 4 years

Thursday the 19th June 1856 Cut wheat with 4 cradles tto day we had Albea & Frank Foster hired to cut & Bind at one dollar a day each but did not help us much Sorry hands under too much time

Friday the 20th June 1856 Finished Cutting our Mediterranean Wheat and commenced our White Wheat & Rye we have 5 acres of white wheat (smothe head) next to Tatems in the corner and about 10 Acres of Rye in the Cassel field Our white wheat is verry good & I think will make 75 Bus we shall see We had 663 [?] Mediteranean wheat in pump field an 511 [?] in cassel field 1374 [?] in all & 171 [?] white wheat

Saturday the 21 June 1856 Finished Harvesting to day We had 171 Doz White WHeat and 90 Doz Rye verry warm to day therm. at 93 degres

Sunday the 22 June 1856 Thermometer stood at 95 degrees in the shade

Monday the 23rd June 1856 running 4 plows plowing our corn the 3rd time warm Ther 90 Deg

Tuesday the 24 June 1856 Run 5 plows in our corn in the afternoon it rained a light shower

Wednesday the 25 June 1856 Commenced plowing our corn the 4th time with 2 plows in the orchard not quite done the 3rd time yet but will get done tomorrow

Thursday the 26 June 1856 Finished plowing our corn the 3rd time Commenced Halling in wheat in the afternoon getting Dry & verry warm Ther 93 Deg

Friday the 27 June 1856 Halled Wheat with 2 waggons all day Ther 93

Saturday 27th June 1856 plowed with six plows all day Heat & dry Thre 93

Monday the 30th June 1856 Halled wheat all day with Two waggons & Run Two plows Emtied the Cassel field & turned in the Neags Neat yesterday & to day the Ther Stood at 96 each day Very Dry. our corn Twisted into Strings Irish Potatoe tops Dying

Tuesday the 1st July 1856 Commenced Cutting Oats in the afternoon We finished hawling in our Bearded Wheat before noon at naight we had the Hardest rain we have had for several years with some wind that blowed our corn and oats down Washed our fields verry much Tues 1 94

Wednesday The 9th July 1856 Finished Cutting Oats to day We made 1401 Dox Large Ties 1034 Doz in the field East of the meadow and 367 Doz in the Cherry orchard 50 Acres in Oats this year rather short but good otherwise We had a storm The 1 July that Blowed our oaats down. So that we suppose we lost 200 Doz in the crop

Thursday the 10 July 1856 Run 6 plows all day

Friday the 11 July 1856 Finished plowing our corn we plowed it all four times it looks well plowed & hoed our Sweet Potatoes & cabbage

Saturday the 12th July The negroes Heved & plowed their corn patches Heved our Sweet potatoes & cabbage He

Monday the 14th July 1856 Halled in 6 loads oats but it was rather wet We mowed in field along the Branch the bal of the day

Tuesday the 15 July finished mowing along the Branch & mowed some in the lower end of the Big meadow Heatful day this year Ther 97 Deg

Wednesday the 16 July 1856 Holden Smith Dr WIseman & myself bought a [Skeek?] Tharshing machine we put it up and Thrashed our white wheat to day 171 Doz & 75 on 5 Acres Bushels Francis Started to Chapel Heill to day verry warm Ther stands at 95 Deg

Thursday the 17th July 1856 Hallled oats with one waggon and Hay with the other

Friday the 18th July 1856 Halled Oats all day

Saturday the 19th July 1856 Finished Halling in Oats & Stacked hay Foster gone to the Show at Mocksville.

Monday the 21st July 1856 Commenced Thrashing our wheat to day. verry Cool & Dry Our corn is firing & burning up verry fast

Tuesday the 22nd July 1856 Thrashed wheat all day cool & Dry

Wednesday the 23rd July 1856 Tax Paying here to day We finished Thrashing Wheat to day We suppose we have made nearly 600 Bu of verry good Wheat we was just 2 1/2 days Thrashing it The machine Holden Smith or Dr Wiseman & myself bought of Sheeks is a verry good One does first rate work Thrashes fast & clear We made this year 474 Bu Wheat only

Thursday the 24th July 1856 finished mowing the big meadow Yesterday I Bought a little mouse colered horse of Levin Sheek for $125 Swaped away the Spoted mare to Wesley Boby for a verry large Black mare five years old Last Staurday I sold to Frank Foster the Little Grey mare Celia for $120 to day I started George & Two mules with the Thrashing machine we are going to Thrash Wheat a few weeks for the 16th Bu Dr Wiseman furnishes one hand & 2 mules & Smith Two hands & one horse I got 31 1/4 Bu Wheat & 5 1/4 Bu rye for about 16 days work Thrashing 1 hand & 2 mules

Saturday the 26 July 1856 mowed yesterday & to day until dinner in Shop meadow put up hay after noon Dry verry Dry

Monday the 28th July 1856 moved & halled hay in the shop meadow verry dry & hot Ther at 96 corn burning up
