Fayetteville December 18th 1789

At a meeting of the Trustees of the University of North Carolina.

Present

Frederick Harget James Hogg
On motion Resolved, That two subscriptions be opened, one in the manner specially directed by the act of Assembly, the other on the principle of a mere donation; and that Mr Davie and Mr Hogg get a sufficient number of Copies printed to accommodate each County.

Mr Davie informed the Tristees, that Col. Benjamin Smith had made a donation of twenty Thousand Acres of land to the University; whereupon the Trustees came to [the] following resolution:

Resolved That the thanks of the Trustees of the University of North Carolina, be presented to Col: Benjamin Smith, of Brunswick County for his liberal donation of 20,000 acres of land to the said University.

Fayettville November 15th 1790

At a meeting of the Trustees of the University of North Carolina begun in the Town of Fayetteville in the town aforesaid of Fayetteville pursuant to the forgoing act on-- the 15th of November 1790 present the following Trustees [] []

[To Witt] Wm Lenoir Esqr was nominated being nominated by Stephen Mr Cabarrus Esqr to as the member who should act as president pro-tem and he was unanimously agreed to, upon which he was made [chairing] of and conducted to the chair agreedingly at the request of the Board Mr James Taylor Esqr was unanimously requested to accepted of the appointment of Secretary, pro-temp
