4. Shamberger Property in Greensboro
Mr. Umstead recommended that his Committee be authorized to have one of its members undertake to negotiate a transaction with Miss Shamberger whereby the College would either sell its interest in the property to her or buy her interest for the College. The matter was discussed, and it was felt that the College should undertake to buy Miss Shamberger's interest, and it was voted to authorize the Real Estate Committee to have someone representing it confer with the Building Committee of the Woman's College to determine the worth of Miss Shamberger's life interest in the property and to undertake to close a deal with her based upon the Committee's findings.
Escheats Committee
Major McLendon, Chairman of the Escheats Committee, reported that one of the large corporations in the State had raised the question whether unapid wages and salaries which have accumulated are escheatable to the University. They take the position that such unclaimed funds are barred by the three-year statute of limitation. Major McLendon requrested authority to bring a friendly test suit on this question. On motion of Major McLendon, duly seconded, the matter of a friendly suit was referred to the Attorney General.
HEALTH AFFAIRS DIVISION OF THE UNIVERSITY AT CHAPEL HILL
Major McLendon, Chairman of this Committee, reported an enrollment in the Nurinsg School in excess of the number fixed by the admissions officers for this year.
Dental School
Major McLendon also reported a very strong objection on the part of some of the dentists in the State to the rules with respect to permitting emmbers of the dental faculty to do a certain amount of private practice. He stated that his Committee had an open mind on this matter and would dontinue to give it consideration. No action was taken.
CHAIR OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Judge Parker suggested that the Administration - the President and the Chancellor at Chapel Hill - explore the advisability of establishing a Chair at International Relations at the University .He stated that international affairs are becoming of greater importance and that he has felt for a long time that the University ought to establish such a chair in pursuance of its educational obligations.
Governor Umstead expressed pleasure for the privilege of presiding over the meeting, and commended the members of the Executive Committee for tehir interest and work.
