Leaves of Absence
George H. Esser, Jr. , Professor and Assistant Director, Institute of
Government, is recommended for a leave of absence, without salary, for
one year beginning August 1, 1963. Mr. Esser has been appointed by the
State of North Carolina to work with a new agency on cooperative community
and governmental action in meeting economic, educational and social problems
of the State.
Daniel O'H. Price, Director of the Institute for Research in Social Science,
is recommendbdTor a leave of absence with partial salary of $8, 500, from
July 1, 1963 for one year, in order to accept a Department of Health,
Education and Welfare grant to work at the Center for Advanced Studies in
Behavioral Sciences at Palo Alto, California.
David R. Hawkins, Professor, School of Medicine, is recommended for a
leave of absence, with base salary, from September 1, 1963 for one year,
in order that he may work with distinguished men in his field m England an
F ranee.
S. Shepard Jones, Professor, Department of Political Science, is recommended
for a leave of absence without salary from August 1, 1963 through January 31,
1964, and with salary (Kenan Leave) from F ebruary 1, 1964 through August 31,
1964^ in order to accept an invitation to serve as Visiting Professor at the
Naval War College.
James W. Prothro, Professor, Department of Political Science, is recommended
for a leave of absence, without salary, for the academic year
research while in residence under grants from the Rockefeller Foundation
the Social Science Research Council.
