Sale of North Carolina State Property

President Friday also presented a request for adoption of a
resolution authorizing the sale of 2 acres of land belonging to North
Carolina State to the State Department of Motor Vehicles, as follows:

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles,
The State Highway Patrol, have a headquarters presently located
on the Prison Farm Road across from the State Fair Grounds
fronting 421.6' on Prison F arm Road; and

WHEREAS, the State Highway Patrol is in need of additional
land for expansion of their Troop "C" Headquarters at this location
on their east boundary line; and

WHEREAS, North Carolina State of the University of North
Carolina presently owns the land adjoining the State Highway Patrol
property located on the Prison Farm Road; and

WHEREAS, it is proposed and requested that the University sell
to the State Highway Patrol two acres of land adjoining their present
property on the Prison Farm Road, east of the State Highway Patrol
headquarters on the west boundary of the University property, for
expansion of their headquarters at a price of $3,000 per acre; and

WHEREAS, the University lands are a part of the Dairy Farm of
the University and the sale of these two acres to the State Highway
Patrol would not reduce the effectiveness of the School of Agriculture
Research Program since the University is expanding the farm
facilities on the Finley property purchased in August, 1963 by
legislative action;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of
North Carolina do sell to the North Carolina Motor Vehicles Depart-
ment, State Highway Patrol, approximately two acres of land, a plot
421.6' X 206.6' located on Prison Farm Road adjoining the present
Highway Patrol Headquarters at this point, for the sum of $3,000
per acre.

Mr. Hill moved that the above resolution be adopted. The motion
was seconded by Mr. Umstead and it was adopted.

Right-of-Way from the University at Chapel Hill to Parish of St. Thomas
More.

The following resolution, on motion of Mr. Barber, seconded by
Mr. Hill, was unanimously adopted:

WHEREAS, the Parish of St. Thomas More of the Catholic
Diocese of Raleigh has purchased approximately 20 acres of land
in Chapel Hill on the west side of and fronting on the Highway
15-501 by-pass, located adjacent to properties owned by the
University of North Carolina, the Chapel Hill Country Club and
others; and

WHEREAS, the said Parish is building thereon a parochial school
and convent; and

WHEREAS, the Parish has petitioned the State Highway Commission
to build a service road in front of its school property and the Com-
mission has signified that it would construct the road without cost to
the Parish or other owners concerned if the necessary right-of-way,
in addition to the 200 feet width presently owned by the Commission,
is provided without cost to the Commission; and

WHEREAS, the right-of-way would be 16 feet in width and 275. 2
feet in length in crossing a small lot of one and one-half acres con-
