Beginning at a white oak Commonly Called The old Chappel Corner thence running South on The Morgans line one Hundred & thirty Two poles to a Hicory Morgans Corner in the fork of the Chappel Branch thence west with Said Morgans line on Hun =dred & Twenty Nine & a half poles to a Stake Mark Morgans Corner then North with his line one Hundred & Thirty Two poles to a Stake his Corner then East one Hundred & Twenty Nine & a half poles to the first Stake on Containing one Hundred & Seven Acres

Dr. Uncle,
I was happy in being informed by a letter from Capt. Houston that your family is increased by a son & that all is well. I should have expected to recieve the first intelligence of such an occurence from yourself - It was altogether unforeseen by me.. Every addition to your family will certainly make you more of the citizen - Now your sincere & general benevolence had already made you a warm friend to our institution & every plan for public Utility, yet since the birth of a son you might feel yourself more nearly interrupted in the affairs of yr. University --
Our number is now fifty-six & a great prospect of increasing considerably in a short time. We have asked our endeavors to procure another assistant. But have not been successful. We have written to a young man of my acquaintance who lives below Williamsburg in Virginia & expect an answer by the next post....
Our news at this place has given us more trouble & disappointment than information -
I joined Mr. Ker in getting Browns Daily paper but it has not arrived by the two last posts. so if it does not come more regularly we might discontinue it. There is a universal uproar against the treaty. It is said that we might garrison & defend the western post, for the benefit of British merchants-; that is East india trade was on a better footing before; that is West india trade is entirely destroyed -; That the hands of the legislature are tied down that they can never take such measures for their future security in the patriotic Madison once proposed - that the reciprocity held forth in several articles is a mere nuillity The Fayetteville Politicians have risked their credit in boasting their prodigy of negociations while other companies were openly drinking him & his treaty to hell & damnation - There has been some disagreeable business in New-York on this subject & the great financier Hamilton has been very roughly handled by the people because he was supposed a friend to the treaty.
The museum has made but small progress & consists of only one Ostrich egg. I hope /strikethrough/ that /end/ when it is generally known that such a collection is making in this ^ place^ we shall receive considerable assistance.
I had a very favourable opportunity about three days ago, of sending letters immidiatly to Cumberland by a gentleman who would travel with capidition [sic. capitation] - I endeavoured to interupt David Wilson, James Wilson & D. Donald in making collections & if no accident happens they can make some return before Winter.
My law-progress, you might conclude is slow from the great [??] of [?}? & attention to which is at present necessary for me to /strikethrough/ take /end/ apply myself tho slow, it is I think firm & determined
