Orange County
This Indenture between James Craig of the State and County
aforesaid of the one part, and the Trustees of the University of North Carolina of the
other part Witnesseth, That for and in consideration of the sum of five shillings
to him in hand paid before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt where-
of is hereby fully acknowledged, and in further consideration of the many advan-
tages arising to the STate from the establishment of the said University, and the
particular benefits that will redound to the County of Orange in consequence of
its being fixed in said County, he the said James Craig doth heregy grant, bar-
gain & sell, aline, convey & confirm to the said Trustees and their Successors
forever, the following tract or parcel of land lying in the County of Orange aforesaid,
Beginning at a Post Oak near Jones road; running thence West 16 poles to a red oak
& Spanish oak, then North 50 poles to a red & white Oak, then East 16 poles to a
Black Oak, then South 50 poles to the beginning, containing five acres, more
or less - To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with the ap-
purtenances, to the said Trustees and their Successors for ever. And the
said James Craig hereby binds himself, his Heirs, Executors and Administrators
to warrant and forever defend the said tract or parcel of land with the
appurtenances to the said Trustees and their Successors for ever, against
the lawful claiming of all persons watever -- In Witnesseth whereof,
the said James Craig hath hereto set his hand and seal the 29th
day of November 1796 ---------------
