Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina- Raleigh, 8th Decem. 1797.

The Trustees of the University of North Carolina having recieved the Representation of Joseph Caldwell, Professor of Mathematics, and the Report of the Committee thereon; and having proceeded to fill the Professorship of Natural Philosophy, by the appointment of James S. Gillaspie to that Chair.

Resolved, that the thanks of the Board be given to Joseph Caldwell Esquire, for the faithful and able manner in which he has discharged the various duties of his appointment; and that he be informed, the Board recieved with pleasure the assurance of a continuation of his services as Professor of Mathematics,
