Hon Charles Manley

My dear Sir

Arriving at home this evening from Tyrrel Superior Court I find your letter of the 1st [?] appointing me agent and attorney for the University in the Counties of Bertie & Martin. I accept the appointment with pleasure and will endeavor to deserve the honor and the benefit conferred.

In Bertie I shall be able to receive a very considerable amount of money from [ & Adm.] In this regard the interests of the Univesity of been sadly neglected in our County and others adjoining. I shall also get more land from the estate of Oliviera. This additional land I have been steadily trying to sell. [Genl?] McDonald of Edenton wanted it but does not offer me half its value and I will not let him have it. I will offer it at public sale again this Spring. I offered it last Spring but failed to get a fair bid.

I attend all the Courts in Martin besides visiting the County frequently at other times
