Albemarle. Stanly County. N.C. March 10. 1855
Gov. Bragg.

Dear Sir In the examination of a land case of Daniel Freeman in the Supreme Co. in January last. B. F. Moore & myself concluded, as there are many cases it might be best to lay a demise in the name of the University - as one material deed forming a link in the chain of Plaintiffs title is lost - no doubt burnt with the Records and Registers Books of Montgomery - The Supreme Co. decided that case against us; & we now have to bring a new Ejectment and expect to lay a demise in the name of the University. and another form necessity in that of the President & Directors of the Literary Fund - under the act of 1850 - page 161- chpter 90 - to this I suppose there can be no objections if we indemnify onto costs & for which I send you now two Bonds - amply goods - We are driven to have 7 demises besides there - but the land is ours that is, the Plaintiffs & we are trying to recover it.

Please drop me a line to Jamestown P.O. Guilford on receiving this. that I may inform Mr. Freeman. if there is or is not, any objection to the using of there names. as suggested by Mr. Moore.

With much Regard
Your friend
George C. Mendenhall
