I cannot write as well as I shall in two or three months if
I shall make out to speak & write it, in two years I shall
consider myself smart as I knew a young man (& a fine linguist
he was) who was at it 5 years. The Italian I write &
speak so so & get along very well in society.) I think this
June you graduate is it not so? Lawrence I understand
is at Chapel Hill. give my best love & tell him I hope to
have an answer to a letter I wrote him. If recv'd you must
pay the postage of your letter to Philadelphia directing it
to the care of Mr. John McCauley. I have written Father by
this opportunity & if you find any difficulty in forwarding it
desire him to do so for you. give me all the news in your
letter & remember me affectionately in your letters to Newbern
[page torn] all the Family & Sissy to schoolfellows & all. I heard Cicere
Stanly took a trip to New York but did not like it very
much & put back again in disgust be pleased to insert it in your
letter (the reason) Now my dear Brother if I receive no
letters from you I take it for granted that it is owing
entirely to your neglect again
