Falls July 4th 1836

Dear Brother

Samuel Thompson Battle was
born on the morning of 13 Inst. Sister is
now at the Lewis' & will write you on
her return. The Dr in answer to yours
wishes to embody the results of Saturday
next. To day we all expect to attend
Mrs. Dorch's to hear the redoubtable F Taylor
the self important puff Gen
Blount & to see Bill Arrington [flog?][git?]
Harold. Joseph John Pippin & Miles Cross
have been added to the list of Common's
candidates in Edgecomb - a noble quartum
compounded of ignorance, stupidity, servility
& flatulancy. Who would ride 4 miles
to take choice or rather who would not
ride double the distance not to be represented
at all? Pippin & George tis thought
will be elected. Taylor will beat Blount
some considerable. Dudley will receive but
few votes about this region quite
indicative of the state to which civilization
has attained here.
