Mrs Phillips who returned about a week since. She looks much thinner,
but is now well and lively. I called to see poor old Mrs Collier
too, who is still very low.--- I started out this morning particularly
to see Dr Mason who I heard last night was at Mr Greens
I went there too, but he had left.-- He arrived on Chapel Hill
after night on Monday & left very early this morning -- I heard he
became uneasy about Richard, having heard that he was not going
on here quite so well as he wished - I fear the Doctor will be disappointed
in that boy - I scarcely know what kind of a fellow he is - there is
nothing unamicable in his character I am told yet he is so childish - and green
that I fear he will never command much respect here. ---

Kemp received a very long letter from Sue a few days ago - all
of our friends in Raleigh were well - Mother's health is pretty
much I expect as it has been - She said her Uncle Columbus had
just returned from the Falls, left all well there - Dossy had been heard
from once tho' he had not reached Marianna. --- Ladies called
in & I am afraid my letter will not be mailed to night, it is now
after 4 -- Govr Swain also called - to know how many slaves we have here
that are taxable, - the list was easily given. Anne is considerably better
was at Church last Sunday.--- Mrs Jones has a daughter & is doing well.
I know of no case of sickness on the hill at present. Young Cannon (a student)
was very sick a short time since but he has recovered.

The workmen (that is the black hands went down to Raleigh on Friday
& returned Monday, they are going on jollily with the house - one side
& one end are weather boarded --- I think it will be covered in a few days
the office is a pretty little house. that is finished outwardly except the
doors -- Mr Jenkins says- Patterson (I believe) has delivered a load of beautiful
timber for your paling --- I have purchased a barrel & a half of corn
& engaged a load of shucks at $2 - a four horse load. I am afraid however the
