Louisburg N.C. August 19th, 1861.

Dear Kemp;

Edward Lawrence is sued by the Bank of North Carolina to Wake Court this week - He has about $2,000 due him from the Greens borough & Fayetteville Insurance Company for losses sustained by fire last winter, which they ought to have paid before this and from which, as he informs me, it was his purpose to meet the debt in Bank - If the Bank will not allow him to recover, Will you please enter pleas for him, or if you are Counsel for the Bank, get Mason or some other Brother to do so? He will pay, without reference to the judgment, as soon as he gets the money -

Yours truly, Jos. J. Davis -

P.S. I shall be in Raleigh on Thursday-
