Dear Mother,
Here we are in Memphis at the Gayaso House, we arrived this morning at half past nine o'clock Mr. Collins spent the day here & has just left on the 4 o'clock boat (the first that has left since we came in; Browman's boat I believe it is) for the plantation, taking the children negroes & baggage; he hopes to be back day after tomorrow for we will spend a day or two after he comes & will probably have today week as Tuesdays are the days for Browman's boat to go down the river & he seems to prefer that boat- We were five nights & four days making the trip, fortunately for the children
