My Dear young Master & friend
I Take up my pen To drop you a few Lines from This place To inform you that we all reach here quit safe and all well I wrote you by the Brig Bound for New York on my arrival at Monrovia The Brig was histing Sails To go Seea and I had To write in grate hast Tho I hop you was able To make it out Tho it was badly writen and most Spelt The nex day after we dropt ancorag at Monrovia I went on Shore To visit the Town in company with Capt Goodmanson and Walker we spent The day in visiting The th native School, and the publick Buildings the churches &c The nex day we wer invited to dine with Rev Mr Teage who gav our dinner in Th American Stile Tea in the Evening with Col Yates the nex Morning invitad to Breakfast at the president hous by Dr Roberts the Presidents Brother The President is gon to the States this day we dined with gen Lewes Secretary of State-- The nex day visits the Settlers on the St Paul 20 Miles from Monrovia up this River is all The farmers and planter The St Paul is as Larg as the ranch on this Stream is all The farming of the Country's Carad on The land is very rich in deed producing Rice Corn Cassa durs ginger and arrow root orang and other frutt treeas Loocks verry well and as loand with fruits This is the raisin rain season in Africa So I Cannot go far in the Country to look at it But the river Lands is good I reach grand Bassa Cave on the 23 in the morning found the Bar very Bad indeed I had To Land the Emagrants on the Beach and let Them--
