My dear Mother, I feel very much shocked to think that this is the first time I have addressed a letter to you since my arrival in R. & at the same time I can not offer an excuse for my negligence, except the flow of visitors. I have been kept in one continual whirl ever since I came. I was very glad to get such good accounts of brother George through father's letter which I valued very highly. I also got a letter from Duncan, which I will answer at my earliest convenience. Mother I am very anxious to hear how you are as Duncan did not mention in his letter. I am forced to believe that
that you must be some better, which I do sincerely hope is the case. Has that place on your neck gone down & how is your back. Father wrote me that the Dr. had to resort to the Scarificator again. I do hope that if afforded as much relief as it did the time he used it before. have Father & Bennehan returned from Faintosh. I hope they have not as Uncle George has left this morning for the Plantation & expects to spend the night at Faintosh & hopes to meet Father there. Poor Mr. [Jene?] came Saturday, bringing a letter to Uncle George from Father. Mother I do not know when I have had my sympathy so much excited, as when I first saw him. I thought that I had seen sad
