Distance from "Gowrie" to "Camp" our Georgia Pine Land Settlement
Emma, Louis, & Myself Left Gowrie Tuesday Morg & it took us 15 minutes to walk to the end of the Canal in Middle River. With the Tide & two oarsmen in 15 minutes we reached "Augustan Creek" Against the Tide, it required 45 minutes to reach the Wood Landing. With the Tide on returning 30 minutes back to the Mouth of the Creek. In Walking with my usual steps 15 minutes from Landing to the Broad Road 1600 steps From said Road to the Entrance line of Camp 12 minutes and of my steps 1080 From North East entrance of Camp in 8 minutes we reached the settlement in 750 steps Minutes 125 My Usual Steps 3430
I am led by frequent trial along a Public Road from Mile Post to Mile Post To regard (2200 I think) of my usual walking steps equal to one mile.
We came back by rowing through the Cut across "Drakies" Point. which was almost insurmountable with but two oarsmen. Such is the perpetual rush of water always in the same direction there But once through it placed us with the Tide in our favor nearly all the way back. Chs Manigault
