Early in January, river at Augusta rose 27 ft., but the swamps being very dry we did not feel it. On 3rd April, river at Augusta 25 ft 7 in., swamps very full. On 11th our upper N.W. squares took in water, Barclay & Dr King flowed by the freshet. Our work in no manner interrupted. First appearance of May Birds 25th April, weather cool. Commenced in No 12 East Hermitage 2 Bush. 1½ Pecks per Acre. 1st planting Nos 3. 4. 6. 7. 8. 12. 13. E. H. Seed bought from Brewton plantation Savannah River, Estate Chisolm @ $2.00, Acres [Quarter moon] 25th March. The remainder of our planting was from Seed bought @ $2.00 from Daniel Heyward. viz: from Gowrie (which place he rented) 260 bush.; from Laurel Hill 470 bushels. 2nd planting 6th April 2 3/8 Bush's per Acre. [Full moon] 8th April Nos 2 E.H.; 11. 12. 13. 14. 15. Gowrie, Acres. 3rd planting 18th April 2½ Bushels per Acre. [Quarter moon] 24th April: Nos 1.
