Petersburg 12 Feb. 1822

Dear Sir

I have just received a letter from
Mr. Tho G. Scott informing me that he had
packed up the goods at Smithfield & propos
-es that I may take them & I have written him
on the subject; it seems that $500 or $600
worth have been sold, principally on credit,
if your business calls you that way, I will
thank you to take charge of the debts & have
them collected for me,- be pleased to inform
me what you have done in the other busi-
-ness concerning the land & the debts that were
put into the hands of Mr T Ruffin, I wish
you to attend to the whole business for me
& shall expect to pay your charge for so
doing- Mr. S. mentions a conveyance
which he has made for his creditors, which
I wish you also to examine & attend to my
interest in it, living at so great
distance from Raleigh, it is very incon
