Rockford Feby 10th 1822

Dear Sir

I received your letter of the 9th and in answer communicate what little I know rela tive to the business that you enquire about, in a confidential manner.

Mr. Workman Connor of Iredell was one of the principal persons that intended to have made the purchase of which you enquire, there were many others intending to hold shares of about $2000 each. I received a letter from Connor since he returned from Raleigh and he informed me that he had not seen the Gentleman, but had written, I think, to him. He farther mentioned that he understood the lands or parts of them had been transferred to J. P. Carter to secure him against some payments that he was compelled to make. It was expected from this that the project was at an end

Yours respectfully James Martin [Secr? (Secretary?)]
