Mount Mourne Iredell County, N.C. Aprile 1st 1822 Sir, On the 11th ultim, I wrote to you concerning the suit pending in the united states circuit Court at Raleigh [Ziz.?] [offmo?] Bowden's Exe. rs or admit - Vs. [illegible] G.S. Houston. but not having received any lines of instructions from you yet about a payment which I am now prepared to make on the bond, it has become necesary to write to you again; I expect to start a journey to Tennessee iin a short time in order to being on the money here. sufficient to the payment of the {Bals~?] of the Bond or judgement my agent there has lately informed me by letter that a considerable part of the money is now ready + that there will be but little or no difficulty in collecting the residue; therefore (Deo pivante) expect to return in Augu. next. perhaps sooner at any rate in time to lift the Judgement in sep. next as I before stated to you. I would be glad if it would suit your convenience to make a considerable payment at the Bank in Salisbury before I set out to the west; you will therefore much oblidge me on the reception of these lines to state the manner

in which the payment ought to be made, in short I will make payment agreeable to your order betwen this & the first of May next. you will please to write in a short time particularly seeing I must dispose of the money now on hands in some way or other before I go to the west Yours very Respectfully Thomas Ruffin Esq J.B Houston P.S. Judgement will not be taken [Vs?] us whilte the Term in May, the Marshal will then have from May till Nov to make or collect the money; you will please to inform him that the whole amt of the judgement shall be paid in the sept next without fail or defalcation, if that will be suffiscent for him. he need not come on at all. & if not let him come on here, for we are & have been useing every industry to pay off the demand Ye Be J.B.
