I off local Rep Primaries 1888 Neil Warner Caucus Mrs Gregory

Monday Oct 1, 1888

Variable and cool -- 57º -- cold day & I got left -- George Warren resuming his place on the Chronicle -- Republican primaries today for county convention I was about town -- Bed 1

Tuesday Oct 2 --

Clear & cool -- About town -- The Neil Warner Dramatic Co at Opera House this week -- Played Othello last eve, & "Time the Hour" this eve -- I attended this eve -- very poor house -- Received note from Mrs Gregory, at Chronicle office to call & see her at 6pm -- did so -- about her husbands insurance -- went to Operate House -- Bed at 1

Wednesday Oct 3

Clear cool & pleasant -- got telegram from SF, saying that C M Gregory had been paid his half of his father's policy -- $2500 -- Evening I wrote a note to Mrs G to that effect -- Rep caucus for tomorrow's convention -- Bed 1 --

Same -- Reported Republican County Convention for Chronicle -- Dan De Quille & I walked up home together at 2:30 -- Evening about town -- Bed 1 --

Same -- About town -- Evening visited Nevada Lodge No 7, 1.O.O.F. -- Initiation of Young Sandrock -- About 20 from [Wildey] Lodge No 1, Gold Hill were present --Good house -- interesting -- Bed 1

Saturday Oct 6

Clear, cool & pleasant -- Reported Dem County Convention today in Gold Hill -- at Miners Union Hall -- Through at 6 PM -- rode home on wagon -- At 7 met wife at local train from Reno -- Room -- Took her to theater -- Neil Warner troupe's last night -- "Othello" -- Not very good -- poor house -- We left at close of 2nd act -- Went out to supper -- Bed at 11 --

Same -- slept late -- Rose at 10 -- Took our meal at home today -- canned corned beef & soft boiled eggs -- fresh doughnuts, etc from the bakers -- Tea with milk -- apples, etc -- PM took walk about town -- Train at 5:10 & saw her off for Reno -- Evening at home writing etc -- Bed 2 --

Rain time changed -- Keyes off Stewart -- Daggett -- Frosty Nights

Monday Oct 15

Clear cool & pleasant -- change of railroad time commenced today -- mail & passenger train to arrive at 10:25 AM & depart at 3:35 PM -- But it was 2 hours late this morning, & went on time in PM -- Col Pat Keyes left on PM train for San Francisco, to attend the annual meeting of the Keyes Co -- I send quite long letter to wife -- Bed at 1 --

Fair and Cassidy in Va Freezing nights "Maddie" from Austin

Same -- Hon J G Fair unexpectedly arrived from S.F., registered as a voter, paid visit to Con Va mine, etc, & left on PM train for S.F. again -- May return to vote & may not -- Evidently looking ahead politically -- Hon G W Cassidy Dem aspirant for Congress spoke in Gold Hill last evening & was in town today -- speaks here tomorrow night -- I saw squaw "Maddie" & daughter on street today -- from Austin last day or two -- says Austin no good place, now & have come to stay -- Evening about town -- Freezing cold -- Bed 12 --

Same -- colder -- Evening attended speaking of George W Cassidy, Dem candidate for Congress, at Opera House -- Bonfires -- Big house -- I on stage at reporter's desk -- Good speech -- Bed 12 -- Bowels have troubled me much last 2 or 3 days -- Very cold night --

Ice Eunice Banjos "A Tin Soldier"

Clear & cold -- Ice found 1/2 an inch thick in this city last night -- Was about town more or less -- Evening wrote a 4 page letter to Eunice -- Bed 1

Monday Oct 22

Same -- About town as usual -- Evening had Bob Evans up in my room, giving me lessons on the banjo -- he restrung my small banjo with new steel wire strings -- We played together, big & little banjos, flute etc -- Bed at 1 --

Tuesday Oct 23

Clear & cold & blustering -- Evening at Opera House -- Play, "A Tin Soldier" -- by Eugene Canfield, Jesse Jenkins, Chas F Raymond, Miss Kate Davis, Isabel Coe, Marie Cahill, et al -- 13 in all - Very funny -- good house -- Bed 1 -- storm threatened --

Clear & cold -- Senator Stewart addressed a crowded audience at Opera House this evening -- I attended -- Very satisfactory -- Bonfires in streets -- Bed at 1

Cloudy & cold -- Light sprinkles of snow about noon -- Quite Wintry -- Evening attended Degree Lodge -- Work in 1st & 3d degrees -- Bed at 1 -- This morning's Enterprise has following: [clipping] All right afterward --
