Assembly from committee this PM "without recommendation" -- Capt Avery was found to have the smallpox day before yesterday & taken to the pest house -- was bar-keeper at the Ormsby House -- Today it was announced that Keyser and 3 more of his children had the disease, also a colored woman who has been doing washing for the Keysers -- 5 new cases today -- Evening about town short time -- Bed at 12 -- Met Frank Doten in Carson this morning & paid him $20 I owed him --

Same -- Only the Senate in session today, the Assembly having adjourned last evening till Monday -- I reported as usual, got letter up in time, sent it by up train to the Enterprise -- took down train at 4 PM for Reno -- Found all right -- Bed at 9 --
Sunday March 3
Same -- Morning train to Va -- PM about town -- Evening wrote up my Chronicle legislative report & put it in at office door box -- Bed at 1 --
Monday March 4
Same -- Harrison Inaugural of Pres't -- Flags displayed everywhere on flagstaffs -- Got down too late for the train -- saw last end of it going past the corner -- Went right up to Mooney&s livery stable, & got a team, 2 horses & driver & at 8 oclock started for Carson -- Passed the train at Empire depot & got into Carson only 5

minutes behind it, at 9:20 -- just 1 hour & 20 minutes from Va -- Didn't urge the team at all -- Reported as usual -- Capt Avery died at 5 PM yesterday of smallpox -- was buried before midnight from the pest house -- Evening session of both Houses -- I came up on evening train -- Bed at 1 --

Same -- RR train to Carson & back as usual -- Both houses holding night sessions, I staid & reported -- Wrote in Dovey's room till past midnight -- My bill went through Committee of the Whole in Assembly, "Without recommendation" -- Bed at Arlington House at 1 --

Same -- Same -- Rose too late for my Chronicle letter on up train -- Telegraphed George Warren to write up one on Enterprise -- Reported as usual -- Telegraphed Warren of the Chronicle to write up one from Enterprise -- My bill reached Senate from Assembly this PM, and was referred to Committee on claims -- Got my Enterprise letter off all right by 5 PM up train -- Evening session of both Houses -- After that I wrote reports, etc in Dovey's room -- Through at 12 -- Bed at 1 at Arlington House --

Cloudy but pleasant -- Last day of the session -- Reported as usual -- My bill passed Senate this PM only Emmitt of Reno voting against it -- Hard days work and at it

Same -- cooler and threatening -- Was in Governor's office most of day, getting up summary of the bills approved for Chronicle -- Evening train to Va -- got in last report for Enterprise -- Bed at 11 -- very tired
Saturday March 9
1/2 inch of snow fell before daylight -- cleared off very fine day -- Was about town some -- Got my summary of bills approved in PM Chronicle -- took PM train for Reno -- Several members of Legislature on board for home or California -- I found Alfie sick with earache -- Evening at home -- Bed at 9, very tired --

Cloudy -- Down town awhile in the AM and PM -- At home most of the day and evening -- resting -- Bed 10 --
Monday March 11
Fine day -- Morning train to Carson -- Had to pay regular passage $3 to Va, with stopover at Carson -- Pass ran out last evening -- Found my bill signed by the Governor -- Got it certified & fixed up, and put in hands of the State Controller -- So much previous business on hand that I won't get my money for 4 or 5 days yet --

Cloudy with one or two very light sprinkles of rain -- About town most of day -- PM wrote and sent letter to J F Hallock, State Controller, telling him to notify me when he is ready to pay me that ($2.50) -- Bed at 12 --
Wednesday March 13
Morning about an inch of snow which melted off muddy during the day -- Evening, a good snow fall of couple of inches -- wet damp snow -- slushy -- PM telegram from Hallock said: "Your claim has materialized and awaits your coming. J F Hallock" PM wrote and sent 3 page letter to Senator J P Jones, Washington D.C. relative to Superintendency of the Carson Mint -- Evening wrote and mailed 4 page letter to Chas H Price, PO Box 194 Leadville, Ciolordo -- Bed at 1 -- snowing lightly --
Thursday March 14
Cloudy -- variable -- Morning heavy snowstorm -- 4 or 5 inches -- Took morning train to Carson, in response to Hallock's telegram -- got my $250 in gold & silver coin of the United States -- Letter from G W McHardy of Austin rec'd asking me to send him a copy of the proceedings before Assembly Committee on Elections, relative to the contested seat from Lander County for the Assembly, of Geo W McHardy vs Geo W Dickson -- I worked 4 hours at it & finding I couldn't finish, got some of the original documents to take along -- Back to Va on evening train -- No snow below Mound

Friday March 15
Cloudy with several light snowstorms during day -- Muddy -- About town, at odd jobs -- sent $100 check to wife -- Bed 12 -- Paid Joe Josephs $15 today which he advanced for my IOOF degrees about a year ago -- Also paid Fredrick the jewler $11 & got my porcelain sleeve buttons and pearl scarf pin out of (soak) --

Same -- About town, etc -- Bed at 12 -- Clear & freezing hard --
Sunday March 17
Cloudy & threatening -- Took morning train to Reno -- Found Alfie still sick with apparenly a slow fever -- About noon I went to Depot Hotel & telephoned Dr Bishop of Insane Asylum to come up -- He came with his wife -- took out a tooth that was bothering Alfie, left medicine etc -- wore my porcelain sleeve buttons and pearl
At Reno -- Sam's Rebecca $100 check & letter & spoons Capacity of Presses
scarf pin for first time today -- Found that Mary had received a letter from Sam, enclosing a check for $100 in settlement of sister Rebecca's death, he being the executor of her estate -- About $300.00 more to come -- He also sent a lot of silver spoons, etc, that she had, as my dividend of that class of her property -- In con-
