Clear & pleasant -- AM train to Reno -- found Alfie much better and able to be about, and out of doors -- Evening I killed & dressed a young pullet for him, sent by a friend -- Bed 9

Cloudy -- 1 or 2 showers laid the dust -- About town most of the day, house hunting, as our landlord wants his house -- PM Bessie, Sam & I went to Opera House -- [McNish, Ranza & Arno's Minstrels?] just arrived by evening train from the East -- good house -- good show -- Through at 1/4 to 11 -- 10:45 -- Bed 11:30 -- cloudy --

C & P -- left on the morning train, late, at 8:45 AM for Va -- arrived 11:30 -- PM odd jobs about room -- Sammy's banjo head arrived all right by express a day a day or 2 ago -- prepaid -- Evening about town -- Bed 12 --

Cloudy, cool, blustering, dusty and disagreeable -- tried hard to rain but only few constipated sprinkles -- Odd jobs -- Bed 12 --
Saturday April 13
Same -- PM and evening snow and hail squalls laid the dust -- PM Bob Evans was with me at room, and we strung up Sammy's banjo and had some practice music together -- Evening at Lodge and I did up the Warden business all right -- Afterward was at Opera House awhile & saw greater part & windup of big glove contest to a finish between Jack Sullivan of Sacrament and James Morrissey of San F -- Good house -- Fought 3 1/4 hours, closing at 1:15 -- Sullivan gave it up -- Purse $250 -- Bed 1:40 -- Cold, freezing & blustering --

Same -- About town -- Mailed letters to Jones, Steward, Bartine and Wells Drury, (San F) Evening at room --Bed 1 -- Wrote a letter from Sam [Pedge?] (her bro-in-law) to Mrs J C Williamson formerly Maggie Moore [blank/erased?] Made item for tomorrow's Enterprise regarding it --

Variable -- letter from McHardy with Silver note for $2 & a promise of $3 more on 5th of next month -- Got a round pine curtain roller 5 ft long by 1 1/4 diameter at Frederick's for my walking staff as the Old Warden -- Took PM train at 2:30 for Reno -- Found Alfie & the rest all right -- getting ready to move -- Evening at home -- Wife up at Opera House rehearsing scholars for a school benefit theatrical performance -- Bed 11 -- cold night --

Clear & pleasant -- AM at home -- PM down town -- interviewed Hoffman, the owner of

our house & others -- evening at home -- got out my old fiddle & had some of it -- Brought Sammy's banjo to him yesterday, so we had music together -- Wife ut rehearsing -- Bed 10:30 -- Strong frost last night -- Fruit trees all in bloom --

Same -- dusty -- Evening, Lodge -- Charley C Bowman and _______ Cameron initiated -- I did the Old Warden, for 1st time, and pretty successfully -- Afterward went up to Opera House -- Grand Reunion of Order of Chosen Friends -- Supreme Councillor HH Morse of N York & C M Arnold, Gran Councillor of California present -- Speaking and literary exercises, & dance wind up till 12 -- Bed 2 --
