Clear, warm & pleasant -- R K Allen came from S.F. on AM train to pay loss of James Nevin, $2,000 in our insurance Co -- I took PM train for Reno -- found wife sick in bed -- Bad cold, etc -- Evening down town -- Was at the Riverside Hotel awhile interviewing P K Faulds, one of our insurance agents, who is working Reno -- Bed 12 --
Thursday May 2
Cloudy, cool & blustering with occasional light sprinkles of rain -- Busy most of day packing up to move -- About town some -- Evening met Allen at Depot, on his way below -- Saw big 8 coach vestibule train of Raymond excursionists stopping at depot
Eastern Excursionists -- Insurance -- Lew Stevenson Senator Stewart -- Wife sick
for rest and refreshments, eastward bound from California (returning home) -- called on "Lew" or Jesse L Stevenson, at his office and insured him for $3000 -- Took

him at once to Dr (Thoma) & had him examined -- Took his note for $29 for 30 days -- gave the company's receipt therefor -- Home at 10:30 -- Bed 11 --

Variable, pleasant -- About town -- did nothing more about moving, as I am negotiating to stay -- Evening at home -- Sam played banjo & I the fiddle together -- Rec'd letter from Senator Stewart, Washington -- Wife still sick, but able to sit up -- Bed at 10 -- Sent Lew Stevenson's application below tonight --
Senator Stewart arrives -- I at Va, Carson, etc Big Snow Storm -- Sleighing -- For Reno
Saturday May 4
Cloudy, cold & disagreeable -- Morning train to Va -- Senator Stewart -- arrived at Reno last evening -- was on train with daughter & got off at Carson -- PM about town -- Took 2:30 PM train to Carson -- Stewart not going to leave for SF till tomorrow evening, so I took evening up local train to Va -- Attended lodge, as Warden -- Bed 12 -- rain & snow a little --
Sunday May 5
Heavy snow storm set in before daylight & continued -- heavy wet snow -- melted some beneath, but piled up 6 or 8 inches -- two or three sleighs out with small sleighing parties -- pretty fair sleighing -- I was busy at room till noon -- took 2:30 PM train for Reno -- still snowing -- Senator Stewart on train, bound for S.F.

House Purchased
to successful issue today -- Had the $100 received from Sam March17 and Bender of First National Bank, Reno, loaned me $300 on Sam's telegram, making $400 my share of Rebecca's estate same bank also loaned me $200 on note from self, and wife, indorsed by Justice of the Peace W H Young. Deposited the $600 in the Bank of Nevada which loaned me $1000 on mortgage -- so that at 2 PM the whole $1,600 was paid for our house, which we live in and William Hoffman deposited the deed therefore made from himself to my mother in law Sarah A Stoddard -- Williams the County Recorder
Jackson the black Pugilist Change of RR time -- Working at Home
will have her sign note and mortgage on Monday -- Evening at home -- very tired -- Bed at 9:30 -- in our own house --

Same -- At home most of day fixing up things again -- unpacking, re-hanging pictures, etc -- Evening at depot saw Pete Mackson return from Va & go on to San F-- Jack Hallinan had him in charge -- Had big house at Va last evening -- Opera House -- Bed 9:30 -- Change of train time on both roads today --

Cloudy and threatening -- Worked hard splitting wood, repairing fence, hanging gate, etc -- Bed 9:30 -- Mother, signed note and mortgage this morning -- Williams came with them, & took them to record.
